UWF Returns for First Homestand

Argos take on Union Friday & Christian Brothers on Sunday

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The (4-0) Argonauts are seeking to continue their hot start to the season, when they start conference play this weekend. West Florida returns to the UWF Soccer Complex this weekend to host the Union Bulldogs in their Home Opener on Friday at 7:30pm, and Christian Brothers University on Sunday at 3pm.

Opening Weekend Recap
* UWF started the weekend off with Albany State last Friday in Albany, Georgia. The Argos took it to the Golden Rams, winning by a final score of 5-0. Four different Argonauts scored in this matchup. Grace Busby led the way with two goals scored in the second half, to increase her season total to three goals scored. Lee Ducharme, Jessica Quixley, and Robyn Herman scored their first goals of the season in this one sided affair. West Florida is now (2-0) all-time against the Golden Rams.
* The second matchup over the weekend took place in Young Harris, Georgia against the Young Harris College Mountain Lions. UWF defeated the Mountain Lions 1-0, thanks to a Peyton Peffers goal just minutes before the half ended. The road win for the Argos helped improve their record against Young Harris to (2-0) all time.

* UWF remained at #4 in the United Soccer Coaches poll this week. The Argos are the leader in the South Region polls though. They are followed by Barry University, Lee University, Rollins College, and the University of Tampa to round out the top five.
* UWF is joined by Lee University as the only two teams from the Gulf South Conference ranked in the top 25 United Soccer Coaches poll this week. Lee comes in ranked at #21, with a record of (3-1-1). The Flames' only loss came from Carson-Newman in overtime, who UWF defeated in their opening game 2-0.
 
Player Spotlight
*Goalkeeper Esthefanny Barreras leads the Gulf South Conference with the best Goals Against Average of (.265). This stat ranks her 18th nationally for Division two.
 
Upcoming Weekend Matchups
* Union is (0-2) this season, losing to Trevecca Nazarene University 5-2 and the University of Tennessee at Martin 3-2. Bulldogs' Goalkeeper Anna Venckus has faced 56 shots in the opening two games. West Florida owns a (5-1) overall record against Union and are (2-0) when facing the Bulldogs at the UWF Soccer Complex.
* Christian Brothers University has a (1-1-1) record, and will be facing Spring Hill College on Friday night before making the trip to Pensacola for Sunday's game. UWF is (17-9) overall against Christian Brothers and holds a whopping (9-2) record at home against the Buccaneers.
