#10 UWF COMPLETES WEEKEND SWEEP, 2-0

4 Argos Pick Up Their First Goals of Season

Columbus, Ga. – The Columbus State University Collegiate Invitational was good to West Florida this weekend. #10 Ranked UWF has started the year off hot by shutting out #2 Ranked Carson-Newman Friday and defeating the Florida Tech Panthers this morning with a final score of 4-1 at the Walden Soccer Complex in Columbus, Georgia.

FIRST HALF: The Argos came out attacking right off the opening whistle blew, racking up 4 corners in the first 15 minutes of action. Set Piece Specialist, Sam Waarum served a beautiful ball at the net during one of those corner kicks and ended up forcing a deflection from the opposing goal keeper that landed right in the lap of UWF Senior Grace Busby. Busby served it straight into the back of the net for her first goal of the season and put the Argonauts on the board first.

SECOND HALF: After Florida Tech scored an early goal to open the second half, UWF took off and never looked back. In the 56th minute the Argos forced a penalty kick that allowed Celine Rumpf to pick up her first goal of the season by drilling the far left corner of the net, past the keeper. Then UWF really opened up the game when Victoria Swift received a perfect long pass from Celine Rumpf and showed off her impressive speed to beat the Florida Tech defender and punch in her first goal of the season to put the Argos up 3-1. Elizabeth Vickers sealed the game for the Argonauts when she scored her first goal of the season in the 78th minute, giving UWF the 4-1 win.

West Florida completely dominated the game this morning, outshooting the Eagles 26-7 and controlling possession enough to have an impressive 17 corner kicks on the day.

NEXT UP: UWF will take on Albany State at 7:00 pm ET on Friday in Albany, Georgia. The Argonauts defeated the Golden Rams last year 6-0. After that game concludes the Argos will travel up the Peach State to finish out their weekend slate with Young Harris at noon ET in Young Harris, Georgia.
