PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 15 UWF volleyball team hit .412 and had six players surpassed the .600 plateau in a 3-0 victory over West Georgia at the UWF Field House Friday.
UWF (11-4, 3-1 Gulf South) hit over .240 in each set and never let the Wolves get comfortable on offense.
Sophomore
Caleigh Morrison led all players with 13 kills on 19 swings for a .579 attack pct. to go along with four blocks. Senior
Nadine Williams finished with nine kills and eight digs.
The Argos came out on fire in the first, hitting .519 en route to a 25-14 decision. After falling behind 2-1, UWF scored eight of the next 10 points to claim a 9-4 lead. They never allowed the Wolves to get closer than five points and ended the set on a 4-0 run.
The second set saw more offensive power with 17 kills and a .483 attack pct. A 5-0 run midway through the frame gave UWF a 15-8 cushion that proved necessary. UWG fought back and cut the deficit to 19-16 and 22-20 before UWF closed out the set with two kills from Morrison and one from Williams for the 25-20 score.
The Argonaut defense came up big in the third, putting down four blocks while building a 19-10 lead. UWF won the match with a 25-15 final set.
UWF finished with six blocks and held UWG (6-5, 1-3) to a .080 attack pct. McKenna Wharton led the Wolves with seven kills.
UWF will return to action on Saturday against Valdosta State (6-10, 2-2). First serve is at 2:00 p.m. at the UWF Field House.
