PENSACOLA, Fla. – No. 15 UWF Volleyball (14-4, 6-1) come out on top 3-0 against Auburn Montgomery (9-9, 0-7) this Saturday afternoon. The Argos are now on a six game winning streak and are looking to continue to go undefeated during this home game stretch with two more matches next week. Tonight, UWF hit .295 for the day, while holding AUM to -.022 attack percentage.
The Argos led offensively in the first and the third set and seemed to play even with AUM during the second set. West Florida came out to win in the first set holding the Warhawks to only seven points. The Argos hit a .522 in set one led by Mackenzie Chrisman who went 5-7 with no errors hitting a .714. Set two was a closer match between the two with UWF pulling through to win 27-25. In set three, the Argos weren't playing around and ended the match 25-15.
UWF dominated the first set early on leading 7-2 with Logan Kael serving the five point run. The Argos really pulled away when Nadine Williams went back to serve and they went on a 10 point run making it a 21-4 point set. UWF finished the set with a kill by Caleigh Morrison from Taylor Vaneekeren 25-7.
The second set was a close match where the Argos errors started to have an affect. The defense stepped up holding off AUM's offense as Logan Kael led the set with three digs followed by Ashton Marshall and JoDee Kovanda each with two. Jordyn Poppen led offensively going 5-7 with no errors hitting a .714 just like Chrisman in the first set. Argos battled for the last back and forth from 22-22 where the Argos finally got the advantage and the set kill by Poppen 27-25.
In set three the Argos switched up the lineup and Ashlan Riley came out and dominated the right side going 3-3 with no errors hitting a 1.000 in the third set. UWF held AUM to 15 points this set and hit a .242 as a team compared to AUM who hit a -.033. Williams held down the defense with five digs in the third followed by Vaneekeren with four digs.
Overall the Argos led in all areas this match and added another win to the season. Four Argos hit above a .400 this match that included Riley (1.000), Vaneekeren (.500), Chrisman (.429) and Poppen (.400). UWF had eight aces three of them coming from Williams. Overall defensively, Williams led with nine digs followed by Kael with seven and Vaneekeren with six. The Argos presence at the net was as dominate as ever with Poppen, Chrisman and Morrison all with three blocks each. Brogan Wallin and Vaneekeren split the assists as Wallin had 18 and Vaneekeren had 15.
West Florida has two more home matches next week before hitting the road again. On Friday, Oct. 5th at 5 pm, the Argos will host Lee University who is 8-9 overall and 6-1 in conference. Lee will face Emory on the Wednesday before traveling to Pensacola. Saturday afternoon the Argos will host Shorter University at 1 pm.
