MONTEVALLO, Ala. – UWF men's soccer ran its win streak to six straight with a 5-2 win at Montevallo Sunday afternoon. The Argos got five goals from five different players in the win.
UWF got on the board early when Sean Hoffstatter beat Montevallo keeper Robert Kuta just 2:43 into the contest. Hoffstatter, who leads the Gulf South Conference in goals and points, has now scored in six straight games. He has a point in seven straight. He would later pick up his second assist of the week in the contest.
Jerry Wiltshire added a second chance goal off a corner at the 20' mark to make it 2-0 before Rafael Godoi extended the lead to 3-0 with a long strike less than ten minutes later.
The Argos took a 3-1 lead to the halftime break. UWF outshot Montevallo 8-4 (5-3 on goal) in the opening period. Montevallo (2-7-0, 1-3-0 GSC) committed seven fouls in the opening half.
Ed Chappe made it four goals in his last four games by converting a penalty kick 16 minutes into the second half. Mathias Ferraz provided the final margin with a goal in the 72nd minute. The strike was his second in the last three games.
Jacob Murray picked up the win in net. He allowed a first half goal to Antoni Matabosch and a second half goal to Arad Lev but otherwise made five saves. UWF outshot UM 20-12 overall. The game featured 23 fouls, 14 of them by the Falcons.
The Argos (6-2-1, 4-0-0 GSC) will open a four-game stretch at home vs. Lee (7-2-1, 5-0-0 GSC) Friday at 5:00 p.m. UWF currently sits a half game behind the Flames for first in the GSC. The squads are two of just three unbeaten teams remaining in the conference.
