PENSACOLA, Fla. – Fresh off an opening weekend sweep at the CSU Collegiate Invitational the No. 4 University of West Florida women's soccer team will continue their trip in the Peach State by heading to Albany and Young Harris this weekend. They will face off against Albany State University on Friday at 7:00pm ET and Young Harris College on Sunday at noon ET.

Opening Weekend Recap
* UWF opened the season with a top 10 matchup against #2 Carson-Newman last Friday night. The first half was all defense as both teams combined for only 8 total shots, and only 3 of which were shots on goal. In the second half the Argos stepped up the offensive intensity and forced some early miscues from Carson-Newman. The key players for the Argos in this one were newcomers Freshman
Peyton Peffers and Grad Transfer
Sam Waarum as both scored a goal in the opener, helping UWF to a huge early season win with a final score of 2-0 over the Eagles.
* In the weekend finale on Sunday, UWF completely dominated Florida Tech winning with by a final score of 4-1. The Argos came out attacking right from the start as they forced 5 corner kicks in the first 20 minutes of play. The aggressive style of play benefitted the Argonauts by giving them an early lead when
Grace Busby knocked in her first goal of the season off a keeper deflection from a corner kick in the 15
th minute. Despite the Florida Tech Panthers tying it up in the beginning of the second half, the Argos kept playing aggressive and found themselves up by 3 goals at the final whistle.

Elizabeth Vickers each scored a goal in the second half to help propel the Argonauts to victory on Sunday.

* UWF moved up in the United Soccer Coaches poll this week from No. 10 to No. 4. The team's highest ranking since 2014, when the Argos were ranked No. 2 in the country.
* UWF is the only Gulf South Conference team that landed in the recent top 25 polls.
GSC Honors
*Goalkeeper
Esthefanny Barreras was named the GSC Defender of the Week. This is her first GSC award. Barreras had a shutout in her Argo Debut and only allowed one goal on 15 total shots faced this past weekend.
*Freshman midfielder
Peyton Peffers earned the GSC Freshman of the Week award this week. This is also her first GSC award. She recorded a goal and an assist against Carson-Newman in the opener last Friday.
Upcoming Weekend Matchups
* Albany State enters Friday's matchup (1-1) coming off a weekend where they faced two Gulf South Conference opponents in Valdosta State and Shorter University. The Golden Rams lost the first matchup last Friday against Valdosta State 5-0. They rebounded Monday though, as they defeated Shorter 2-1.
* Young Harris has a (1-1) record after getting shut out in their season opener 4-0 to Limestone College last Saturday, and winning their home opener Wednesday night against Lincoln Memorial by a final score of 2-0.
