Albany, Ga. – UWF's offense continued their hot start to the season by putting up 5 more goals on the road tonight against Albany State University. Not to be overlooked though, the Argonauts defense put up some crazy numbers in this one. They only allowed 2 total shots all game, and neither were shots on goal. The #4 Ranked Argos moved to 3-0 on the season after crushing the Albany State Golden Rams 5-0 in Albany, Georgia.
FIRST HALF: The main highlight of the first half came when
Jessica Quixley scored in the tenth minute to give the Argonauts an early lead.
Hannah Wooten was credited with the assist on the play. The rest of the half UWF dominated possession taking 13 other shots, compared to ASU's 2.
SECOND HALF: The Argos completely destroyed the Golden Rams in the second half. Senior
Grace Busby got things started in the 58
th minute scoring off a header to the back of the net that was set up perfectly by
Sam Waarum. Busby wasn't done yet though. Two minutes later she struck again getting her third goal of the season, while at the same time crushing any hope that the Golden Rams had of making a comeback in this one.
Robyn Herman got her first goal of the season in the 68
th minute, when she delivered one to the back of the net putting the Argos up by 4. The last goal of the game came off the leg of Freshman
Lee Ducharme. This is now the second straight weekend that UWF has had a freshman score. The final score in this one sided affair was Argos 5, Golden Rams 0.
West Florida outshot the Golden Rams by a mind blowing total of 26-2. The Argonauts played offense the entire game it seemed like totaling 18 corners, whereas Albany State only took 2 corners total.
Esthefanny Barreras picked up her second shutout of the season and didn't even face a single shot on goal all game.
INTERESTING NOTE: Albany State's head coach, Alexandria Pickrell, is a former University of West Florida Argonaut. She was a four-year letterman, three year starter, and an all-conference player from (2010-2014). Pickrell helped lead the Argos to three Gulf South Conference Championships, and one NCAA National Title.
NEXT UP: UWF will finish up the road trip on Sunday when they take on Young Harris at noon ET in Young Harris, Georgia. Young Harris is (1-1) on the season with a win in their last game against Lincoln Memorial by a score of 2-0.
