PENSACOLA, Fla. – UWF men's basketball returns home for a pair of matchups vs. Shorter and West Georgia Thursday and Saturday. The Argos battle the Hawks at 7:30 Thursday before taking on the Wolves Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
UWF is looking to build on the conference play momentum it earned after beating Mississippi College 72-59 Jan. 12.

JON BROWN EARNS SECOND GSC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK AWARD

Jon Brown has been named the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week following a 41-point week for UWF men's basketball at Delta State and Mississippi College. The award is the second of the season for Brown, who also notched Freshman of the Week honors Nov. 27.
* The redshirt freshman from Helena, Ala. recorded his most efficient game of the season at Delta State Thursday. He went 8-of-13 from the field, 6-of-8 from three and 5-of-6 from the line on the way to a career-best 27 points. He also grabbed five rebounds in 36 minutes.
* Brown followed the performance at Delta State with an impressive one at Mississippi College in which he reset career highs in assists and rebounds. He helped the Argos to a 72-59 win in Clinton with seven assists and 15 rebounds. He also dropped 14 points at the A.E. Wood Coliseum. The double-double was his second of the season.
ARGOS DEFEAT MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE
* Four players scored in double figures and six players scored at least eight points as UWF men's basketball defeated Mississippi College 72-59 at the A.E. Wood Coliseum Saturday afternoon.

Rashaan Benson led the way with 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field and 4-of-5 shooting from deep. Brown finished with 14 points plus a season-best seven assists. He notched the double-double with a career-best 15 rebounds.

Maxwell Benoit added 13 points.
Jarrett Henderson posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The double-double was the fourth of the season for the senior.
Bryan Chalifoux finished with nine points while
Henri Ventoniemi added eight.
GULF SOUTH LEADERS
* Benson ranks 12th in the GSC with 13.9 points per game. Brown ranks 18th in the conference with 12.3 points per game.
* Benson is eighth in the GSC with a free throw percentage of .800. Brown is ninth with a .791 mark.
* Henderson is tied for seventh in the Gulf South with 7.1 rebounds per game.
* Benson is 14th in the conference in assists at 3.2 per game. He is 11th in assist to turnover ratio (1.5). He is tied for seventh with 1.4 steals per game.
* Ventoniemi is tied for seventh in the GSC with 0.7 blocks per game.
* West Florida is fifth in the GSC with 66.9 points per game.
SCOUTING SHORTER
* The Hawks are 2-13 this season and 0-7 in conference play. The team is 2-7 at home and 0-6 on the road. Shorter has lost 10 consecutive games.
* Joe Russell ranks 17th in the GSC with 12.3 points per game. Russell is T-14th in the conference with 1.8 3-pointers per game.
* Jaylin Brown is 12th in the GSC with a .739 free throw percentage. Frenki Lilaj is 23rd in the conference with 4.6 rebounds per game.
* UWF is 6-6 vs. Shorter since 2013. The Argos have defeated the Hawks in four straight games. UWF is 3-3 at home vs. Shorter since 2013.
SCOUTING WEST GEORGIA
* The Wolves are 10-5 overall and 5-2 in conference play. The team is 6-1 at home, 3-3 away, and 1-1 on neutral floors.
* West Georgia has won four of its last five games, including a 70-66 win at Lee Jan. 10.
* Marquill Smith has proven to be the most effective scorer in the conference this season. He is first in the GSC with 24.2 points per game. The number ranks him sixth in NCAA Div. II men's basketball.
* Smith is fifth in the Gulf South with a .373 three-point field goal percentage. He is second in the conference with 3.1 three-pointers per game. He is fifth in the conference with 0.9 blocks per game.
* Smith is 11th in the GSC with a .436 field goal percentage. Josh Fleming is 12th with a .409 mark.
* Aren Ulmer is first in the GSC with 2.4 steals per game. He is third in the Gulf South Conference with 4.7 assists per game. He is tied for 9th with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.7.
* UWF is 13-13 vs. West Georgia since 2016. The Argos are 8-2 vs. the Wolves at home in the same span. UWF has defeated West Georgia in each of the last four contests.
