PENSACOLA, Fla. – UWF men's basketball gets back to Gulf South play Thursday at Valdosta State. Tip vs. the Blazers at The Complex is slated for 8:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. CT. The team will return home Saturday for a 4:00 p.m. GSC contest vs. Montevallo.
UWF closed the 2018 calendar year with a 77-55 win over LaGrange College Sunday. The Argonauts will host five home games in the month of January after playing just three in the Field House over the first two months of the season.
ARGOS WIN AT HOME VS. LAGRANGE COLLEGE
* UWF men's basketball (4-8, 0-4 GSC) got back on the winning track with a 77-55 win over LaGrange College Sunday at the UWF Field House.
Jon Brown netted a career-best 23 points,
Henri Ventoniemi posted a double-double, and four Argos scored in double figures.
* The Argos were led by
Jarrett Henderson and
Brett Carter Jr. in the first half. Henderson piled up 11 points, two rebounds, one block and one steal in 15 minutes off the bench. Carter Jr. also came off the bench to notch 11 points on 4-of-4 shooting from the field and 3-of-3 shooting from deep. Henderson would finish with 11 points, and Carter Jr. finished with 14.
* Brown scored 20 of his 23 points in the second half to help the Argos lead comfortably in the game's closing minutes. The redshirt freshman shot a very efficient 7-of-13 (.538) from the field, 2-of-4 (.500) from deep and 7-of-10 (.700) from the line. He also added five rebounds and two assists.
BENSON MOVES INTO SECOND ON UWF STEALS LIST

Rashaan Benson recorded four steals in the game's first 20 minutes to surpass former teammate
DJ Thorpe for second place on the Argos all-time career steals list.
* Benson finished with six steals, a personal season-high. He now stands at 133 for his UWF career, just six behind all-time program record holder Deondre Boynton.
* UWF played outstanding defense all game vs. LaGrange. The team helped to force 30 Panther turnovers and recorded 17 steals. Both were season-highs.
ARGO DEFENSE TOPS GSC LIST FOR STEALS IN A SINGLE GAME
* The 17 team steals vs. LaGrange are the most in a single game by a GSC team this season. Benson's six steals were the most by an individual in a single game this season.
* Only one other team has recorded at least 15 steals in a game this year (West Georgia, 16 vs. Palm Beach Atlantic Nov. 9).
SCOUTING VALDOSTA STATE
* The Blazers are currently 10-2 overall and 3-1 in GSC play. The team is 6-1 at home, 3-1 away and 1-0 on neutral floors.
* Valdosta State lost for just the second time this season vs. Emmanuel College 77-73 Dec. 30.
* The Blazers have now lost two of three. The team suffered its only GSC loss of the season 71-70 Dec. 15 at Lee.
* The Blazers lead the GSC in scoring (93.3 points per game) and are the only team in the conference with more than 1000 total points (1119).
* Valdsota State shoots a conference best .415 from beyond the arc.
* VSU is led by last year's GSC Player of the Year, Beau Justice, who is second in the conference with 22.2 points per game this season. Winston Morgan is ninth in the conference with 14.3 points per game.
* UWF is the only team to beat Valdosta State twice last season. The Argos are 8-20 vs. VSU since 2005 and 2-14 in Valdosta during that span.
SCOUTING MONTEVALLO
* The Falcons are currently 6-8 overall and 2-2 in GSC play. The team is 3-1 at home, 1-4 away and 2-3 on neutral floors.
* Montevallo is currently riding a three-game winning streak, a span that includes two GSC victories over West Georgia and Shorter.
* The team is known as one of the best rebounding squads in the conference this season. The Falcons are third in rebounding offense (37.6) and are first in rebounding defense (30.0).
* De'Marco Owens has had an excellent individual rebounding season. He is third in the GSC with 7.5 boards per game.
* Cam Copeland currently ranks eighth in the GSC in assists at 4.2 per game. He is also third in the conference in steals at 1.9 per game.
* UWF is 3-13 vs. Monvtevallo since 2006 but scored a pair of wins over the Falcons last year. The Argos defeated the Falcons 83-74 in the first round of last year's conference tournament.
