UWF Men's Basketball Looks To Continue Win Streak At West Alabama Thursday

Argos have outscored opponents by 61 over the last three games

PENSACOLA, Fla. – UWF men's basketball heads to West Alabama Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. matchup with the Tigers. The Argos are looking to continue a three-game winning streak that has seen the team play its best basketball of the year.
 
"I want us to keep getting better. We've improved the last three or four games, continued to be intense with how we've played," said UWF head coach Jeff Burkhamer. "We need to continue to play very well together and go on the road and try to find a way to win."
 
UWF will return home Monday for a 7:30 p.m. contest vs. Auburn Montgomery. UWF will remain at home for a 7:30 game vs. West Alabama Jan. 31.
 
BENOIT SCORES 31, ARGOS EXTEND WIN STREAK VS. UWG
 
* Maxwell Benoit scored a collegiate career-high 31 points, and UWF men's basketball cruised past West Georgia 83-51 Saturday afternoon to extend its win streak to three.
* The win was the most impressive of the season for the Argonauts, who reset team season-highs in points (83) and shooting percentage by going 26-of-49 (.531) from the field. The margin of victory (32) was also the largest of the season for UWF, and the 51 points were the fewest the team has held an opponent to this year.
* Jon Brown scored 16 points to go along with four rebounds and two assists. Alassane Kah scored 12 points and recorded two rebounds. Jarrett Henderson narrowly missed out on his fifth double-double of the season with 11 points and eight rebounds. Rashaan Benson netted nine points while also posting five assists and five rebounds.
* UWF has now outscored opponents by 61 points in the last three games.
 
JON BROWN WINS THIRD GSC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK AWARD
 
* For the second straight week and the third time this season, Jon Brown has been named the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week.
* Brown enjoyed another excellent week, helping the Argos to two wins vs. Shorter and West Georgia. The Helena High alum notched his second straight double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds Thursday vs. the Hawks. He also notched two assists and two steals as UWF ran away with a 79-63 win.
* The Helena, Ala. native followed the performance vs. the Hawks with 18 points, four rebounds, and two assists in an 83-51 win vs. the Wolves.
* Brown enjoyed an 11-of-13 night from the line vs. UWG, a display that continues to move him up the conference leaderboard in free throw efficiency. He stands at seventh in the GSC with a .793 mark from the charity stripe.
 
BENSON POISED TO BREAK ALL-TIME STEALS MARK
 
* Benson is poised to break the all-time UWF career steals record. With 23 this season, he stands at 135 for his career.
* He is four away from tying the all-time mark set by Deondre Boynton (139). Benson's single-game season-high is six, set Dec. 30 vs. LaGrange College.
 
SCOUTING WEST ALABAMA

* West Alabama is led by LaJuan Hardy, who is second in the GSC with 5.3 assists per game. He is third with 1.9 steals per game.
* Josh Fleming who is 16th in the conference with 12.9 points per game. He is 11th with 1.9 three-point field goals per game.
* Deandre Harper is fourth in the GSC with 7.5 rebounds per game. Ricky Dunnaway is 15th with 6.3 rebounds per game.
* West Alabama is the top defensive team in the conference. The Tigers have held opponents to 64.2 points per game. The Argos are currently fifth at 65.8 PPG.
* UWF has won four of its last five meetings vs. UWA. The Argos are 13-12 vs. the Tigers since 2006. The team is 6-9 in Livingston in that span.
