UWF Heads To Magnolia State This Weekend

The Argos will face Delta State on Thursday and Mississippi College on Saturday

UWF hits the road against this week as the Argonauts complete a stretch of three out of four games on the road, traveling to Delta State on Thursday and Mississippi College on Saturday.

IT'S A MAGNOLIA STATE MENTALITY
* UWF has had success in both Cleveland and Clinton over the past five years. Since 2014, the Argonauts have gone a combined 14-1 against Delta State and Mississippi College. Prior to last year's 59-55 loss to the Lady Choctaws on Valentine's Day, the Argos had won 14-consecutive over the two teams.
* UWF is 5-4 under Stephanie Lawrence Yeltonagainst the Mississippi schools on the road.

ABOUT UWF
* UWF is 10-3 overall and 4-2 in Gulf South Conference play.
* UWF ranks second in the GSC and 18thnationally in shooting, making 46.1 percent of its shots. The Argos are also 16thin the country and lead the GSC with a 37.9 3-point field goal percentage.
* The Argonauts' four seniors - Belle BistrowToni BrewerAnna Hall & Halee Nieman - have been the top four scorers all season, combining to average 57.1 points per game - or 75.6 percent of the offense. Nieman (18.5 ppg) and Brewer (17.2 ppg) rank first and second in the GSC in scoring.
* Bistrow, Hall, Niemanand sophomore Danielle Norquest have all made at least 37 percent of their 3-point shots. Bistrow is 17thindividually at 45.3 pct. and 20that 3.00 makes per game. She has made at least three triples in a game nine times (out of 13) this season, while freshman starter Fanny Hulmi made a GSC-best six in Saturday's win over Montevallo.
* UWF has out-rebounded its opponents by an average of 44.2-32.8 this season & ranks 10thnationally in rebound margin (11.4) and second in defensive boards (33.0). The Argos have outrebounded their opponents in 12 of 13 games and had a plus-10 margin seven times.
* UWF's 3-point defense ranks 32ndin the NCAA and second in the GSC, allowing opponents to make just 26.8 percent of their shots.

ABOUT DELTA STATE
* Delta State is 8-4 on the season and has won eight of its last 10 games after an 0-2 start. The Lady Statesmen are 4-2 in GSC play following a road split at Shorter (69-59 overtime win) and West Georgia (65-59 loss) last week.
* The Lady Statesmen are averaging 64.3 points per game on 42 percent shooting. They are allowing 61 points per game. DSU ranks third in the GSC in 3-point shooting, connecting on 33.1 pct.
* Nia Johnson (11.8 ppg), Quantesha Patterson (11.6 ppg) and Alondrea Rush (10.5 ppg) lead the team in scoring, while Frederica Haywood is the top rebounder with 8.6 rebounds per game.
* UWF and Delta State are 12-12 all-time in women's basketball, with the Argonauts having won the last seven. That marks the longest winning streak by any team against the storied Lady Statesmen program. 

ABOUT MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE
* MC is 5-6 on the season and 1-4 in the GSC. The Lady Choctaws have won two of their last three games and will face AUM on Thursday night.
* MC averages 63.5 points per game and are 4-3 at home this season.
* Sophomore Lauran Sheriff paces the squad with 10.8 points per game while junior Zariah Matthews averages 10.4 points. Junior Coco Hobson paces the squad with 6.9 rebounds per game.
* UWF is 6-4 all-time against MC. The Argos had won six-consecutive before last year's 59-55 loss on Feb. 14 in Clinton.

HALL WITH THREE DOUBLE-DOUBLES AND TWO TRIPLE-DOUBLES
Anna Hall transferred to UWF in the offseason from Saginaw Valley State following a strong career in three seasons for the Cardinals, finishing with 658 points, 405 rebounds, 265 assists and 143 steals in 82 games. But her time with the Argonauts, she has improved up those numbers.
* She has two triples doubles to share the Division II lead. Her first one came on Nov. 20 against Spring Hill with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. She recorded the second one on Dec. 5 against Tuskegee with 10 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists. She has come with two points of another one twice, with the most recent coming on Saturday against Montevallo where she had 9 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists.
* Hall is averaging 8.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 2.2 steals per game. She currently ranks 30thin the GSC in scoring, and in the top five in rebounding, assists and steals.

BREWER TAKES OVER UWF CAREER REBOUNDING MARK
* Senior Toni Brewer redshirted last season and hasn't missed a beat from the play that earned her 2016-17 All-America honors.
* Brewer currently leads the team with 11.9 rebounds per game and `0 double-doubles, while ranking second with 17.2 points per game. She is second nationally in double-doubles and seventh in rebounds per game.
* She enters the weekend with 1,373 points and 1,021 rebounds and ranks in the top five in UWF history in both categories. She became the program's all-time leading rebounder last week at Valdosta, passing former former teammate Katie Bobos.

* Over the past four seasons, the Argonauts have always been a strong rebounding team. This year is no different as UWF is second in Division 2 with 33 defensive rebounds per game and is 10thwith a 11.4 rebound margin.
* The Argos have finished the year no lower than 22nd in rebound margin over the past four seasons.

UWF STRONG AT HOME UNDER YELTON
* UWF has combined to win 63 games at the UWF Field House in 6-plus seasons under Stephanie Lawrence Yelton. The Argos are 57-17 in the last 5-plus years with a .768 winning pct. They have won at least 10 games four times in the last five years, going 10-2 in 2017-18 and 12-2 in 2016-17.
