Huntsville, Ala.- A goal in each half propelled the 15th ranked West Florida Men's Soccer Team to a 2-0 victory over UAH on the road Friday night at Charger Park in a crucial Gulf South Conference contest for both teams.
The win moves UWF to 9-1-1 on the year and 5-1-1 in the GSC while the loss slips the Chargers to 4-6-1 and 2-2-1 in conference.
The first half of the match was dominated by the Argonauts has they were able to outshoot UAH by a total of 12-7 and earn five corner kicks as opposed to zero for the home team. Despite the number of chances, it looked as though the match would head to halftime scoreless though.
Fortunately for the Argos, redshirt senior
Sean Hoffstatter came through in the 44th minute off an assist from
Davi Alves. The goal from Hoffstatter is his fifth on the season, enough for the team lead and he also leads the team in points with 11.
The second half was a different story as Alabama Huntsville controlled the play in the early portion of the second half with UWF goalkeeper
Jihad Gomes again having to make big saves to help his team until the offense was able to get rolling again. That moment came in the 77th minute when
Teavon Spencer scored his fourth goal on the year to make it 2-0 and put the game out of the reach. Spencer now jumps to second among all Argos in points with 10 only behind Hoffstatter.
Next Up: The Argos return to action on Sunday, October 20th against West Alabama. Kickoff vs. the Tigers is slated for 3pm.
