21st ranked Men's Soccer completes season sweep of Spring Hill

Spencer ties team lead with sixth goal of season

Pensacola, Fla.- In a fierce contest that included 40 fouls and seven yellow cards, the UWF men's soccer team kept their composure and defeated Spring Hill by a final of 4-1 inside the UWF Soccer Complex on Friday night.

West Florida (11-1-2, 6-1-2 in the GSC) completes the season sweep over SHC (6-7, 4-5) after previously besting them 2-1 on September 21st in Mobile, Alabama.

The first half would see both teams trade goals as freshman Davi Alves would get his fourth goal of the year in the 17th minute to give the Argos an early lead. Matthew Moreno would later tie it up for Spring Hill with a goal to tie it up at 1 apiece which would remain the score at the break.

The second half was where the Argonauts would make their mark as they have all season long outscoring their opponents 24-7 in the final period.  Junior midfielder would get the scoring started in the 48th minute where he put the ball high and away from the Badger goalkeeper to deposit the ball in the back of the net to make it 2-1 UWF.  The Argonauts would increase their lead when Eduardo Quieroz would find a loose ball in the box in the 58th minute to collect his first goal on the year. Junior forward Teavon Spencer would close the scoring in the 83rd minute to make it 4-1 and put the game out of reach.  The native of Morant Bay, Jamaica is now tied for the team lead with six goals.

The Argo defense was once again solid as they limited the Badgers to 12 shots on the night, including four in the all-important second half.  Goalkeeper Jihad Gomes continues to impress as he had four saves on the game.

Next Up: UWF will almost get a week off before returning to action on Thursday, November 7th when they host GSC opponent, Delta State. Kickoff is at 7:30 pm from the UWF Soccer Complex.
