West Florida’s Second Half Surge Advances them to GSC Semifinals

UWF will Play Montevallo on Friday in Pensacola, Florida

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Florida is now 12-5 on the season, after taking down No. 3 seeded West Alabama in the opening round of the Gulf South Conference Tournament in Livingston, Alabama on Tuesday afternoon. The No. 6 seeded Argonauts won by a final score of 3-1, thanks to a huge performance from seniors Kaila Armstrong and Isabella Garcia-Salas, who each had a goal in today's match. The win means that the Argos will advance to the GSC Tournament Semifinals this Friday.
 
FIRST HALF: The Tigers got on the board in the 16th minute, when TeMia Pride scored off an assist from Aleah Headley. This was the only goal of the half. West Alabama had the edge in time of possession in the first half and outshot UWF 6-5.

SECOND HALF: The second half was all Argos as they scored three unanswered goals to propel them to victory. Armstrong led the charge for UWF with a goal in the 67th minute to tie things at one a piece. Peyton Peffers scored in the 79th minute off a corner kick from Annie Rolf to give the Argos the lead. Then Isabella Garcia-Salas picked up her first goal of the season in the 80th minute to add some insurance to the lead.

OVERALL STATS: UWF outshot West Alabama 12-8 in today's match, with West Florida outshooting West Alabama 7-2 in the second half. The Argos finished with four corner kicks this afternoon, while the Tigers only had two.
 
NEXT UP: The Argonauts will return to Pensacola, Florida for their next match on Friday. UWF will face second-seeded Montevallo at the Ashton Brosnaham Park.
