PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida men's basketball team dropped its third consecutive decision on Wednesday with a 76-62 loss against Webber International. Freshman
Daniel Sofield led UWF with 17 points and shot 5-of-11 from beyond the arc, and
Cameron Cox added a career-high 16 points while shooting 6-of-11 from the field.
Wednesday marked the second consecutive game in which Sofield led the Argonauts in points and Cox led UWF in assists. Lawrence scored in double digits for a second consecutive game as well, picking up 10 points in 29 minutes.
Turnovers troubled the Argonauts on Wednesday night, with WIU picking up 15 points on 17 West Florida turnovers.
West Florida took a 12-point deficit into halftime but again turned things around in the second 20-minute period.
In the second half, West Florida shot 46 percent from the field and 45 percent from three-point range, cutting the Webber lead to as little as eight points with 5:56 left in the game. UWF was trailing by 22 with 9:09 left on the clock before Sofield hit 3-pointers on four consecutive possessions,
Jeremiah Zio added a jumper, and Cox hit a pair of free throws in less than four minutes.
That strong run late in the game would be too little, too late, however, as WIU went on a 12-6 run to end the contest.
Chinedu Okonkwo led West Florida with eight rebounds, and
Tarik McKelphin had three steals.
West Florida will visit Tuskegee on Saturday, November 16, before opening Gulf South Conference play at Union and Christian Brothers next week. Fans can keep up with the team by following @UWFMensBBall on Twitter.
