Pensacola, Fla.- Following a 3-1 victory over Spring Hill College, the UWF Men's Soccer team will face off against Alabama Huntsville in a Gulf South Conference Tournament semifinal on Friday afternoon at 2:30pm from Ashton Brosnaham Park in Pensacola.
The Argonauts (12-1-3) remained in the second spot in the regional rankings for Super Region II this week, only trailing Lynn University. Palm Beach Atlantic, Florida Tech and Young Harris round out the top five.
West Florida had a strong showing in their win over Spring Hill on Tuesday night, getting goals from three different players. Senior forward
Sean Hoffstatter led off the scoring, followed by
Ed Chappe off a penalty kick and fellow midfielder Eduardo Quieroz capped the scoring in the 73rd minute to finish off the visiting Badgers.
About UAH: The Chargers come into the match-up at 7-8-3 after a first round upset in the GSC opening round over the number two seed, Auburn Montgomery. Forward Rafa Moreno paces the offense with nine goals and 19 points on the year. Moreno was named to the All-GSC first team earlier in the week. Redshirt senior forward Khalil Bell provides support up top with four goals of his own on the year.
The Argos won the only other contest between the two on October 18th by a final of 2-0. Hoffstatter and
Teavon Spencer provided the scoring for the offense while sophomore goalkeeper
Jihad Gomes recorded one of his seven shutouts in the road game.
