PENSACOLA, Fla. – West Florida lost a thrilling semifinal matchup to No. 2 seeded Montevallo on Friday night. The game came down to a shootout, where West Florida fell short in the seventh round. UWF is now 12-5-1 overall and 8-4 in the GSC play.
FIRST HALF: The Falcons struck first in the 30
th minute, when Kira Bochard scored off an assist from Medhali Hernandez. The Argos tied things up at one a piece in the 36
th minute, when
Annie Rolf scored from inside the box off a deflection from the Falcons' goalkeeper. West Florida had the edge in time of possession in the first half and outshot Montevallo 11-6.
SECOND HALF: Montevallo took the lead in the 71st minute off a corner kick from Vic Whitehouse that was knocked in by Hernandez. West Florida answered right back to tie things up once again thirty seconds later off a penalty kick goal from Anita Danielsdottir.
OVERALL STATS: UWF outshot Montevallo 24-13 in today's match, with West Florida outshooting West Alabama 10-6 in the second half. The Argos finished with eight corner kicks this afternoon, while the Falcons were held to only two.
OT/SHOOTOUT: Nobody scored in overtime, forcing a shootout. After seven rounds of the shootout, the Falcons emerged with the victory.
NEXT UP: The Argonauts will wait until Monday night's selection show to see if they will be participating in the NCAA Tournament. The Division II Women's Soccer Selection Announcement will begin at 5pm CT and will feature 56 teams. The selection show will be live on NCAA.com.
