TUSKEGEE, Ala.– The University of West Florida men's basketball team dropped a 63-57 decision at Tuskegee on Saturday afternoon, falling to 0-4 on the season.
Lawrence Williams led UWF in scoring for the first time this season, going for 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting.
Tuskegee jumped ahead early, with a 26-21 lead at halftime after a back-and-forth first half. But again, West Florida responded after the halftime break with a strong final 20 minutes. Williams put up 14 points while shooting 5-9 over the entire 20 minutes, and
Jon Brown scored 12 points in the second half with 8 of those points coming from the free throw line.
West Florida played well in spurts in the second half, trailing by as many as 17 points with 9:25 left and cutting the lead to as few as 2 with 1:57 left in the game. Between those two points, UWF went on a 20-5 run, and Williams scored 9 of those points.
It would be too little, too late, however, as Tuskegee opened the lead back up to six points by the end of the game and reaching the 63-57 final score.
The Argonauts held Tuskegee to 40.4 percent shooting – the defense's best effort of the young season.
UWF will start Gulf South Conference play next week, visiting Union and Christian Brothers.
