The UWF women's basketball team will open Gulf South Conference play this weekend with road contests at Union on Saturday and Christian Brothers on Monday.
UWF is 2-2 and coming off a 72-56 loss at Spring Hill on Tuesday.Â
Danielle Norquest leads UWF offensively and is currently averaging 14.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. SophomoreÂ
Charlotte Ellmore has been a nice addition early on, posting 12.8 points per contest with team-highs of 4.3 assists and 34 minutes per game. She had a career-high 21 points with four 3-pointers on Tuesday.
UWF is shooting 37 percent overall and has a plus-11 rebound margin. The Argos are getting to the free throw line and average of 28 times per game and making 68 percent.
ABOUT UNION
Union is 3-2 after a 67-58 loss to No. 11 Central Missouri earlier this week. The Bulldogs are averaging 79.6 points per game and shooting 46 percent from the floor. The Bulldogs were picked to finish second in the GSC.Â
Union leads the series 11-4. The Lady Bulldogs have a 5-2 record in games played in Jackson. They have won the last two games and six of the last seven. UWF's last win at Union was a 75-67 win in January 2016.
ABOUT CHRISTIAN BROTHERS
CBU is 1-1 on the season and will play host to Valdosta State on Saturday before the Argos visit on Monday evening. Head coach Jessie Carmack in his first season at CBU following seven seasons as an assistant at Ohio Dominican. Taylor Williams and Brynne Lytle are each averaging 14.5 points per game to lead the Lady Buc offense.
The Argonauts are 11-4 all-time against the Lady Bucs and 4-3 in Memphis. CBU won the last game played in Memphis - two years ago - to snap UWF's 7-game overall winning streak in the series.
