MELBOURNE, Fla. – The University of West Florida men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Florida Tech and saw its season come to an end on Friday night in Melbourne. The Argonauts finish their 2019 campaign with a 13-3-3 record.
The offense was slow to start the contest, with just 11 combined shots for the team over the first 38 minutes of play, when
Jerry Wiltshire scored the first goal of the evening. It was the England native's third goal of the year, and he converted after passes from
Sean Hoffstatter and
Ed Chappe, who were each credited with an assist.
UWF took the 1-0 lead into halftime, but Florida Tech owned possession in the final 45 minutes. The Panthers scored four minutes into the second half to tied things up, before Stian Olsen finished on a pass from Luca Campanini to give FT the 2-1 lead in the 70th minute.
Florida Tech outshot UWF 21-8 on the night.
Each of UWF's three losses this season were by just one goal.
West Florida's 13 wins are the most for the program in a season since 2013 (14), and the Argonauts' .763 winning percentage is the team's best since 2012 (.765). Goalkeeper
