UWF Volleyball is the 2019 Gulf South Conference Champions

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida's Volleyball team are the 2019 GSC Champions and have secured a spot in the 2019 DII NCAA Tournament with their win today over West Georgia in the championship match. The Argos came out on top in five back and forth sets in decisions of 25-22, 25-14, 25-11, 25-15, 15-11, dropping the first and fourth set to the Wolves.

Defensively the Argos outmatched the Wolves in blocking and digs. UWF out-blocked UWG 15-6 overall and lead in digs 103-79. Freshman The entire team came together for an outstanding win and some Argos even found their way into the UWF Record Book with their performances today. 

Freshman Veresia Yon earned 12 of the 15 blocks for UWF finding her way into the top three most blocks in an individual match in the record books. Yon was followed by JoDee Kovanda who had six blocks on the match and 11 kills.

Ashton Marshall was all over the court picking up ball for UWF as she totaled 36 digs in the match and is now second in the record book for individual match high performance in digs with her 36 just behind former Argo, Autumn Duyn who had 37 digs against Regis in 2012.

Senior Ebony Powers dominated offensively with 20 kills in the match with only two errors hitting .409. Powers also was second on the team in digs racking up 18 digs for a double-double. Jordyn Poppen, Yon and Powers each had double-doubles in the match and Poppen earned 14 kills and 14 digs making this her 22nd double-double match. 

With their win, the Argos have won UWF's 100th Gulf South Conference Championship as a university and their 102nd conference championship overall. UWF Volleyball has secured their ninth GSC Championship Title in their 12 championship match appearances.
