MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The UWF men's basketball team suffered a 64-55 loss to Christian Brothers at Canale Arena on Monday, ending it's opening conference road trip with a split.
UWF (1-5, 1-1 Gulf South) shot just 32 percent and had a pair of lengthy scoring droughts at different times in the game. The Argonauts defeated Union on Saturday to open the 20-game league schedule.
Jon Brown had a game-high 24 points to go with five rebounds for the Argonauts.
Lawrence Williams was the only other player in double figure scoring for UWF, as he finished with 15 points and nine boards.
Todd Smith had eight points in 15 minutes off the bench.
UWF trailed 27-21 at the break and fought back to within a point at 42-41 with 8:48 remaining. But they went scoreless for nearly four minutes as the Bucs scored eight-consecutive to extend the lead to 50-41 with 4:56 left. UWF was unable to get closer than five points the rest of the game.
CBU (3-3, 1-1) outscored UWF 34-10 in the paint and shot 51 percent from the floor, including 57 percent after halftime. Daryl Lewis was 9-of-11 form the floor and led the Bucs with 21 points. Nick Deifel had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The Argonauts will have a 9-day break before returning to action at home against Tuskegee on Wednesday, Dec. 4. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at the UWF Field House.
The game is billed as the Chappie James Game, recognizing the American fighter pilot from Pensacola who attended Tuskegee Institute in the early 1940s and reached the rank of four-star General in the U.S. Air Force.
