MOBILE, Ala. – The Argos clinched a spot in the Gulf South Conference postseason today after defeating Spring Hill 3-0 in Mobile, Alabama. The victory helped the Argos stay ranked fifth in the GSC, setting up for two exciting conference matchups next weekend at the UWF Soccer Complex.
FIRST HALF: All three of UWF's goals came in the first half, with freshman Anita Danielsdottir getting things started for the Argos in the third minute when she scored off a cross from
Peyton Peffers. Peffers and
Isabella Garcia-Salas picked up assists on the play. Then in the eighth minute
Kaila Armstrong scored her fourth goal of the year off another assist from Peffers. Armstrong fired a strike from outside the box, past the goalkeeper and into the upper left-hand corner of the goal. Peffers scored in the 24
th minute off a corner kick from Danielsdottir to increase the Argo lead to three.
SECOND HALF: In the second half the Argos had multiple scoring opportunities but were unable to find the back of the net. The Badgers' goalie Hannah Linss made 13 saves in the game, with seven of them coming in the second half.
OVERALL STATS: UWF dominated in time of possession and outshot Spring Hill 29-1. West Florida had 14 corner kicks in today's match, and the Argos' defense held the Badgers to none.
NEXT UP: The Argonauts will return home to the UWF Soccer Complex for their final homestand of the regular season next week. They will face Delta State on Thursday at 5:00pm CT and host senior day on Saturday at 12:30pm CT against number five nationally ranked Mississippi College. Delta State is (5-6-4) overall and Mississippi College is (13-1) this season.
