Danielle Norquest had a double-double and senior
Faithe Franklin scored a career-high 14 points to lead the UWF women's basketball team to a season-opening, 74-62, come-from-behind win over Albany State at The Complex on Friday.
UWF shot 45 percent in the game and used a 13-2 run in the third quarter to erase a deficit and gain control of the contest. The Argonauts trailed by eight early in the game and by one at the half.
Norquest finished with 15 points and a career-high 10 rebounds for her first career double-double. Franklin scored 12 points in the second half and ended the day 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
UWF got to the free throw line 32 times and shot 72 percent from the stripe.
Trailing 37-33 early in the third, UWF had four fast break layups during the run to take a 46-39 lead. The Golden Rams tied the game at 50 and were within two at 60-58 with 6:39 to play when the Argos went on another big run. UWF scored the next 10 points and ASU misfired on six shots and had a turnover.
UWF controlled the glass with a 50-25 advantage and turned 14 offensive boards into 17 second chance points.
Sophomore
Charlotte Ellmore had 13 points and six rebounds in her first game at UWF. Sophomore
Aline Fevrier was 5-of-11 from the floor and had a career-high 11 points to round out the double-figure scorers.
Alexandra James led ASU (0-1) with 20 points. The Golden Rams shot 38 percent.
UWF will continue play in the GSC/SIAC Challenge on Saturday evening against Fort Valley State. Tip-off at The Complex is set for at 4 p.m. ET.
