CLINTON, Miss. – The Argos battled today in a five set match against Mississippi College to continue their undefeated GSC streak. UWF competed hard tonight and with their comeback win, UWF clinched the No. 1 seed in the GSC and will host this year's GSC Tournament.Â
UWF came back after being down 0-2 on the match and won the third, fourth, and fifth sets, in decisions of 25-21, 26-24, 25-15, 25-23, 15-11 UWF has improved their record to 22-8 overall and 14-0 in the GSC. The Choctaws have moved to 10-20 overall and 5-9 in the GSC.Â
Tonight's match was a fight for every point and a game of scrappiness. UWF's offensive leader was Veresia Yon who had 22 kills on 35 attacks and only three errors hitting .543 for the match. She was followed by Jordyn Poppen and Ebony Powers each with 13 kills. Poppen and Powers also recorded double-doubles tonight along with Brogan Wallin who had 20 assists and 11 digs.
Poppen led of the defensive end with 26 digs followed by Ashton Marshall with 22 digs. The Argos blocking game was involved with Yon and Marissa Hackett each recording three blocks and was followed by Poppen with two blocks. As a team, UWF hit .281 overall and totaled 66 kills. The Argos also had 66 assists and 91 digs.Â
The Argos next match will be on Tuesday, November 12 at home against Valdosta State with the first serve at 6:00 PM.Â
