UWF Hosts Tuskegee On Chappie James Night

The UWF men's basketball team welcomes Tuskegee to the UWF Field House for a contest beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday night. The contest will open a 5-game homestand for the Argos.

HONORING CHAPPIE JAMES
* Tonight's game will honor a national hero, Daniel "Chappie" James. James was an American fighter pilot from Pensacola who attended Tuskegee Institute in the early 1940s and reached the rank of four-star General in the U.S. Air Force.
* He trained pilots in preparation for World War II and served as a flight leader in the Korean War and then flew 78 combat missions in the Vietnam War.

ABOUT UWF
* UWF comes into tonight's contest at 1-5 overall. The Argos are 1-1 in Gulf South Conference play and 0-1 at home.
* The Argos rank 29th in the country in scoring defense, allowing teams to score and average of 65.3 points per game. Offensively, UWF averages 59.7 ppg and have three players scoring in double figures, led by sophomore Jon Brown's 19.0 ppg.
* In three games, the Helena, Ala. native has scored 16 against Tuskegee in the first game, followed by 17 in the win over Union and 24 in the loss to Christian Brothers. He has also averaged 7.3 rebounds per contest with a season-high 12  against the Bulldogs.
* Junior Lawrence Williams has been a bright spot early on, posting averages of 12.2 points and 6.2 rebounds a night. He has made 18-of-22 free throws and ranks second in the GSC and 55th nationally with that 90 percent conversion rate.

SCOUTING TUSKEGEE
* Tuskegee has a 3-4 record and comes to Pensacola following a 68-53 win at Albany State on Monday.
* Senior James Eads has scored in double figures in every game and has at least 21 points in the last four contests, bringing his average up to 20.7 points per game. He has made 18 3-pointers and the team averages 7.6 made triples per contest.

HOLIDAY GAME THIS SATURDAY
* This Saturday's doubleheader against Spring Hill is the annual Holiday Game. Wear you best - or worst - holiday sweater and get a free picture with Santa Claus in the lobby beginning at 1:30 p.m. Tip-off against the Badgers is at 4 p.m. The women's game starts at 2 p.m.

WINTER CLOTHING DRIVE
* During the month of December, the UWF Athletics Department is accepting new and gently used hats, coats, gloves and winter clothing to aid individuals and families in the Pensacola area. Donation bins will be setup in the UWF Field House and at all nine home basketball games in preparation for delivery to the Waterfront Rescue Mission on Dec. 21st with our corporate partner Coastal Moving and Storage.
