The UWF women's basketball team opens a 4-game homestand, beginning Wednesday at Noon when they play host to Columbus State. A special $5 ticket is available that includes admission to the game, a hot dog and soft drink at the concession stand in the lobby.
UWF KIDS NIGHT THIS FRIDAY!
* Looking for a chance to get away for dinner, or get some holiday shopping done - kid-free? Then take advantage of UWF Kids Night with women's basketball this Friday at the UWF Field House from 5:30-8 p.m. Pizza and fun activities are included for just $20 per child.
HOLIDAY GAME THIS SATURDAY
* Also, this Saturday's doubleheader against Spring Hill is the annual Holiday Game. Wear you best - or worst holiday sweater and get a free picture with Santa Claus in the lobby beginning at 1:30 p.m. Tip-off against the Badgers is at 2 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 4 p.m.
WINTER CLOTHING DRIVE
* During the month of December, the UWF Athletics Department is accepting new and gently used hats, coats, gloves and winter clothing to aid individuals and families in the Pensacola area. Donation bins will be setup in the UWF Field House and at all nine home basketball games in preparation for delivery to the Waterfront Rescue Mission on Dec. 21st with our corporate partner Coastal Moving and Storage. When you donate an item, you will receive a voucher to one (1) regular-season home basketball game to be used for the remainder of the 2019-20 season.
ABOUT UWF
* UWF enters the game with a 2-4 record following a pair of road losses to Union and Christian Brothers to open Gulf South Conference play recently.
* The Argos have struggled to shoot the ball, making just 35 percent on the season, with a season-high of 45 percent coming in a 74-62 win over Albany State on Nov. 8.
* UWF has a plus-4.5 rebound margin this season and outrebounded it's first three opponents.
* Junior Danielle Norquest leads the team with 13.8 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. She is coming off a career-high 27 points against CBU on Nov. 25.
* Sophomore Charlotte Ellmore has been a strong addition to the team this season, The Essex, England native transferred from UTSA and is second on the team in scoring and leads the squad with 19 assists.
NORQUEST AMONGÂ DOUBLE-DOUBLE LEADERS
* UWF junior Danielle Norquest has three double-doubles this season and ranks third in the GSC and 24th nationally in that category. Additionally, her 4.3 offensive rebounds per game place her second in the GSC and 16th in the country.
SCOUTING COLUMBUS STATE
* Columbus State is 5-1 on the season and coming off a 69-59 loss at Valdosta State on Saturday. The Lady Cougars have a pair of wins over Albany State and Fort Valley State - two teams the Argos went 1-1 against.
* CSU is led by junior guard Leeaysia Williamson and sophomore forward Taya Gibson. Williamson leads the team with 18.4 ppg, 15 3-pointers, 24 assists and 14 steals. Gibson paces the team with 8.0 rebounds per contest.
* The Lady Cougars are outscoring their opponents, 75.4-to-61.4 and have reached the 80-point mark three times. They are shooting 44 percent overall and average 13.6 steals per game - which ranks 11th in the country. After outrebounding their first three opponents, the Lady Cougs have been outrebounded by Eckerd and VSU in their last two contests. Their 16.6 offensive rebounds per game is 17th nationally.
* UWF is 3-2 all-time against CSU. The Argos won last year's game, 79-73, erasing an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter. The Lady Cougars won the previous matchup, 70-64, a year earlier in Columbus.
