Women's Hoops Welcomes Lady Statesmen To Town Thursday

UWF fell at Delta State, 63-52, on Jan. 10 in Cleveland, Miss.

PENSACOLA, Fla. - Riding a 9-game winning streak and fresh off a 3-game road swing, the UWF women's basketball team will open a 3-game homestand on Thursday (a.k.a. Valentine's Day) against Delta State at the UWF Field House.

BIG GIVEAWAYS ON VALENTINE'S DAY
* The UWF athletics department will give away a bouquet of roses to a lucky fan at both the women's and men's games on Thursday. Additionally, a 2-night stay at a Wyndham Vacation Resort will be awarded to a lucky fan. Fans can enter their names in the drawing in the UWF Field House lobby one time.

UWF GOING FOR RECORD WIN STREAK
* The Argos have won nine-consecutive games which is tied for the longest in program history. The 2005-06 team won 10-in-a-row from Dec. 16-Jan. 23 on its way to a 23-7 record. The current stretch of 9 wins over GSC opponents is on better than the previous mark held by the 2005-06 squad.

BREWER AIMING TO BE THE PROGRAM'S WINNINGEST PLAYER
* With one more victory, Toni Brewer will have been part of 85 wins over her four years of competition, moving her into first place all-time at UWF. She is currently tied with former teammate Katie Bobos (2013-17) and Kearstin Howald (1997-2001) with 84 victories.

POLL WATCHING
* As a result of the 9-game win streak, the Argonauts have caught the eye of the national pollsters. UWF has risen to the No. 26 spot in the D2 Sports Information Directors of America Media Poll. They are also No. 3 in the South Region Media Poll behind No. 1 Union and No. 2 Florida Southern.
* The first edition of the NCAA Division 2 Basketball Regional Rankings will be announced next Wednesday, Feb. 20.

NIEMAN NAMED GSC PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR THE SECOND TIME
* Senior Halee Nieman earned her second GSC Player of the Week award on Tuesday after she led the Argonauts to three road victories in six days last week, while averaging 21.7 points per game on 54 percent shooting. She was 10-for-19 (.526) from outside and 15-for-19 (.789) at the free throw line, and averaged 7.3 rebounds in wins over AUM, Shorter and West Georgia. The standout from Midland, Mich. registered her first double-double of the season at AUM on Monday with 19 points & 10 boards before scoring 30 points in Saturday's win over UWG, posting her second 30-plus point game of the year.
* Nieman ranks first the GSC in scoring with 18.2 points per game and is third in field goal shooting at 50.7 percent. Her 97-of-140 from the foul line are also among the top three in the league in both categories.

BREWER UP TO 16 DOUBLE-DOUBLES
* Senior Toni Brewer had two double-doubles last week with 18 points/11 rebounds at AUM on Monday and 23/10 against Shorter on Thursday, moving her season total to a GSC-leading 16. That is also second in the country. She now has 54 career double-doubles which is second among active Division 2 players.

BISTROW MAKING IT RAIN IN HER FINAL SEASON
* Throughout her career, Belle Bistrow has been known as a strong 3-point shooter. But in her senior season she has come on strong and is among the GSC leaders in all three long-range shooting categories: First in 3-point pct at .421; First in 3-pointers per game at 2.9; Second in total 3-pointers with 67.
* The Jacksonville, Fla. native also ranks among the NCAA D2 leaders: 10th in 3-pointers made; 13th in 3-pointers per game and 34th in 3-point percentage.
* She is also one of the top perimeter defenders in the GSC who routinely draws the opponent's best outside threat on defense. She also ranks second in the GSC and is 26th in the country in minutes played at 35.7.

* The Lady Statesmen are averaging 66.1 points per game on 43 percent shooting - goof for fourth in the GSC. They are allowing 60.3 points per game. DSU is third in offensive rebounding with 12.8 rpg.
* Nia Johnson (14.0 ppg), Quantesha Patterson (11.5 ppg) and Alondrea Rush (9.3 ppg) lead the team in scoring, while Frederica Haywood is the top rebounder with 9.0 rebounds per game to go along with her 8.5 ppg.
