PENSACOLA, Fla. – UWF men's basketball returns home to begin its final homestand of the regular season this week. The Argos will take on Delta State Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and remain in town for Senior Day at 4:00 p.m. Saturday vs. Mississippi College.
The Argos have come on strong as of late, winning six of their last nine games. The team sits 2.5 games out of the eighth and final spot in the GSC playoff picture with four games to go. UWF will play its final home game of the season Feb. 21 vs. Valdosta State.
Thursday will be Date Night at the UWF Field House. There will be chances for fans to win a dozen roses, a gift card to the Fish House and a hotel getaway weekend. UWF men's basketball will celebrate Senior Day Saturday. The team will honor the contributions of its three seniors:
Rashaan Benson,
Henri Ventoniemi and
Jarrett Henderson.
JON BROWN WINS FIFTH GSC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK AWARD
*
Jon Brown earned his fifth GSC Freshman of the Week award Tuesday following another excellent stretch over a three-game road stretch at Auburn Montgomery, Shorter and West Georgia.
* Brown began his week with 15 points and four rebounds Feb. 4 at AUM. He followed that with a 24-point, five-steal performance at Shorter Feb. 7.
* The wing player from Helena, Ala. played the full 40 minutes at West Georgia Feb. 9, notching his fourth double-double of 2018-19 with 21 points and 10 boards. His performance vs. the Wolves was one of his most impressive of the season. He also passed out five assists and grabbed three steals.
* Brown also picked up the GSC Freshman of the Week award Nov. 27, Jan. 15, Jan. 22 and Feb. 5. He has now captured the award in four of the last five weeks.
ARGOS GO WIN TWO OF THREE ON ROAD TRIP
* UWF men's basketball played three road games last week, downing AUM in Montgomery 92-85 Feb. 4 and defeating Shorter in Rome 92-64 Feb. 7. The Argos fell to West Georgia in a tight one 87-79 Feb. 9 to conclude the road trip. UWF will play its final road game of the season Feb. 23 at Montevallo.

Jarrett Henderson continued his strong play on the recent road swing. He scored 66 points over the three-game span, including a career best 31 at Shorter.
* UWF now stands at 4-8 on the road this season but has won three of its last five away games.
GSC LEADERS
* Brown is now tied for 10th in the conference with 13.8 points per game.
Rashaan Benson is 18th with 12.8 points per game. Henderson is tied for 23rd with 11.0 points per game.
* Henderson is fifth in the GSC with 7.2 rebounds per game.
* Benson is seventh in the GSC with a free throw percentage of .800. Brown is eighth with a .795 mark from the line.
* Benson is eighth with 1.5 steals per game. He is tied for sixth with 3.6 assists per game.
SCOUTING DELTA STATE
* The Statesmen currently stand at 15-8 this year overall and 11-5 in conference play. DSU is 10-3 at home, 5-4 on the road and 0-1 on neutral floors.
* Delta State is currently fourth in the GSC, a half game behind third-place Valdosta State.
* DSU has once again proven to be one of the stiffest defensive units in the conference, currently ranking fourth in scoring defense (66.0 PPG) and second in opponent field goal percentage (.417).
* Brett Warner currently is tied for eighth in the conference with 14.3 points per game. Justin Slocum is tied for seventh with 7.0 rebounds per game.
* UWF fell at Delta State Jan. 10 by a final of 71-62. UWF is 8-12 vs. Delta State since 2008 and 5-5 vs. the Statesmen in Pensacola in that span.
SCOUTING MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE
* The Choctaws are currently 5-15 overall and 2-13 in conference play. Mississippi College is 4-9 at home and 1-6 away.
* Brandon Boston is currently tied for eighth in the conference with 14.3 points per game. He is tied for 12th with 6.3 rebounds per game. He is eighth in field goal percentage (.464).
* Trey Jenkins is fourth in the GSC with 2.5 three-pointers per game. Marcus Lytle is sixth in the GSC in free throw percentage (.821).
* UWF defeated Mississippi College in Clinton Jan. 12 by a final of 72-59. The Argos are 7-3 vs. the Choctaws since 2012. UWF is 3-2 vs. Mississippi College at home in that same span.
