MONTEVALLO, Ala. – UWF men's basketball rallied to pull out a win in the final game of the 2018-19 season Saturday at Montevallo. UWF overcame a four-point halftime deficit to down the Falcons 69-66. Maxwell Benoit led all scorers with 23 points.
 
UWF struggled from the field in the opening 20 minutes, knocking down just 10-of-30 (.333) attempts. In the second though, the team revived its shooting touch, hitting 11-of-23 (.478) attempts from the field and 6-of-14 (.429) attempts from deep to overcome a 32-28 halftime deficit.
 
The game was a banner one for Benoit, who went 6-of-14 (.429) beyond the arc to power his 23-point effort. He also grabbed seven rebounds and two steals while passing out one assist. Jarrett Henderson notched 16 points and nine rebounds. He also recorded two assists and one steal.
 
Rashaan Benson and Jon Brown each finished with 12 points. Montevallo was led by Micah Fuller, who scored 18 points in large part due to a 7-of-7 effort from the line.
 
The UWF defense slowed the Montevallo attack in the second, limiting the Falcons to 11-of-28 (.393) shooting from the field. UWF trailed 34-31 just over two minutes into the second half before igniting a 9-0 that changed the course of the game.
 
Tied 65-65 after a Fuller three-pointer with 1:02 left, the Argos finished with one final push to seal the win. Benoit knocked down 1-of-2 free throws with 49 seconds to go and Brown hit 1-of-2 himself with 26 seconds to play to put the Argos up 67-65.
 
In the end, it was the senior Benson, in his final game in an Argo jersey, who put the game away. The Memphis native hit both of his free throw attempts with 12 seconds left to change a 67-66 lead into a 69-66 edge that the Argos would not relinquish.
 
UWF men's basketball concludes the season 12-16 overall and 8-12 in conference play.
