PENSACOLA, Fla. – UWF men's basketball will look to continue its Gulf South Conference playoff push this week at Shorter and West Georgia. The Argos battle the Hawks in Rome Thursday at 8:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. CT before heading to Carrollton for a showdown with the Wolves Saturday at 4:00 p.m. ET/3:00 p.m. CT.
UWF will return home for a three-game stretch beginning Feb. 14 vs. Delta State. The Argos currently sit 2.5 games behind West Georgia for the eighth and final Gulf South playoff spot.
JON BROWNS EARNS FOURTH GSC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK AWARD
* For the fourth time this season,
Jon Brown has earned the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week award. The phenomenal freshman posted 37 points last week vs. Auburn Montgomery and West Alabama.
* An alum of Helena High, Brown has impressed all season for the Argonauts. He continued his strong play last week, shooting 8-of-10 from the field, 2-of-3 from three and 1-of-1 from the line en route to 19 points vs. Auburn Montgomery. He also passed out five assists and grabbed four rebounds. He followed that with an 18-point, three-rebound performance vs. GSC-leading West Alabama.
ARGOS DOWN AUM BEHIND 21 POINTS FROM HENDERSON, BENOIT
* UWF men's basketball won for the fifth time in the last seven games Monday at Auburn Montgomery. The Argos downed the Warhawks 92-85 behind 21 points each from
Jarrett Henderson and
Maxwell Benoit. Five players scored at least 15 points.
* Henderson went over 20 points for the second straight game, collecting nine rebounds in the process. Benoit, who carded just 22 minutes, shot the ball at an exceptional clip all night, knocking down 7-of-12 attempts from the field and 4-of-7 beyond the arc. UWF shot 32-of-59 from the field as a team, knocking down 6-of-15 three-point attempts and 22-of-25 free throws.
GSC LEADERS
* The Argos have worked their way back into the GSC playoff picture by winning five of their last seven games. The team is 2.5 games behind West Georgia for the eighth and final spot as of Wednesday. The team is just a half game behind Montevallo for ninth.

Rashaan Benson and
Jon Brown are currently tied for 13th in the conference with 13.0 points per game.
* Henderson is seventh in the GSC with 7.0 rebounds per game.
* Benson is seventh in the GSC with a free throw percentage of .792. Brown is eighth with a .786 mark from the line.
* Benson is seventh with 1.5 steals per game. He is eighth with 3.6 assists per game.
SCOUTING SHORTER
* Shorter is currently 2-19 and 0-13 in conference play. The team is 2-9 at home and 0-10 away.
* Joe Russell is 17th in the GSC with 12.7 points per game.
* Five players scored in double figures to power a 79-63 win for West Florida men's basketball over Shorter Jan. 17 at the UWF Field House.
* UWF is 7-6 vs. Shorter since 2013. The Argos have defeated the Hawks in five straight games. UWF is 4-3 in Rome vs. Shorter since 2013.
SCOUTING WEST GEORGIA
* The Wolves are 12-9 overall and 7-6 in conference play. The team is 7-2 at home, 4-6 away and 1-1 on neutral floors.
* Marquill Smith currently leads the conference in both points per game (26.0) and rebounds per game (8.5). He is also first with 3.3 three-pointers per game. The Argos held him to 12 points Jan. 19
*Aren Ulmer is third in the conference with 4.8 assists per game.

Maxwell Benoit scored a collegiate career-high 31 points, and UWF men's basketball cruised past West Georgia 83-51 Jan. 19. The win was the most impressive of the season for the Argonauts, who reset team season-highs in points (83) and shooting percentage by going 26-of-49 (.531) from the field. The margin of victory (32) was also the largest of the season for UWF, and the 51 points were the fewest the team has held an opponent to this year.
* UWF is 14-13 vs. West Georgia since 2006. The Argos are 5-11 in Carrollton vs. UWG in that span. UWF has defeated West Georgia in each of the last five contests.
