Nieman, Brewer Power UWF Past West Georgia, 76-69

UWF returns home on Thursday with a 9-game winning streak

CARROLLTON, Ga.Halee Nieman scored 30 points and made five 3-pointers to lead UWF past West Georgia, 76-69, at the UWG Coliseum Saturday.

UWF (19-4, 13-3 Gulf South) led by as many as 14 in the fourth quarter before holding off a late UWG rally. The Argonauts made 8-of-10 free throws in the final 1:10 to secure its third road triumph of the week.

The win tied the school record for consecutive victories with nine and snapped a 4-game losing skid to the Wolves in Carrollton.

Nieman was locked in early on, making her first three shots from outside while scoring 11 points in the opening 10 minutes.

The Argos fell behind 4-2 before getting hot from outside. Their next five made field goals were 3-pointers which allowed them to grab a 21-17 lead at the quarter break.

Belle Bistrow got in on the 3-point action to start the second and minutes later, Nieman made her fourth triple of the day to put UWF ahead 27-19. The margin reached 10 points three times before Rachel McCree hit a running jumper just before the halftime horn to lead 41-33 at the intermission.

UWF built its largest lead of the contest in the fourth, using a 12-1 run for a 65-51 advantage with 4:31 to play. The Wolves kept battling and got the margin down to four twice but never any closer thanks to the solid free throw shooting.

Toni Brewer had 19 points and six rebounds to go along with Nieman's game-high nine boards. Rachel McCree and Anna Hall had eight points each. Hall handed out nine assists as well.

The Argos shot 43 percent and outrebounded the Wolves 45-32.

UWG (12-9, 7-8) shot 36 percent and were led by Kilah Nixon's 21 points and five 3-pointers.

After playing it's last three on the road, UWF will return home for three-straight in the UWF Field House, beginning Thursday for a Valentine's Night contest against Delta State. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
