PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 14 UWF Women's team completed the weekend with another doubleheader sweep of Christian Brothers and Mississippi College making it a 4-0 weekend for the No. 14 Women's Tennis team.
Today the Argonauts started off with their match against Christian Brothers at 10:00 am this morning at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex. In the afternoon, at 3:00 pm, the Argos didn't have to travel far to play their match against Mississippi College at the Roger Scott Tennis Center.
UWF v. CBU (4-0)
In doubles, West Florida had a leading start to win the doubles point because Christian Brothers was down a player. With the default at the number three doubles, the Argos only had to win one of the doubles matches.
Valeria Mantilla and Jennifer Rink was that clinching match against Eliza Wood and Nellina Wooten winning 6-1. At number one doubles, Gabriela Araujo and Karolina Silwanowicz finished still and defeated Judit Aubets Macia and Laura Brazuelo 6-0.
With the lead 1-0, the Argos led on with spot six, four and five winning in that order. The number six win came from the default win with CBU being down a player. Heather Mixon finished first defeating Nellina Wooten 6-1, 6-0. She was then followed by clinching match won by Isabella Calves who won over Shay Pritchard 6-2, 6-0.
Overall the No. 14 Argos won 4-0 over the Buccaneers.
UWF v. MC (4-2)
To wrap up the weekend, the Argonauts went to the Roger Scott Tennis Center in Pensacola, Fla. to play their match against Mississippi College.
In doubles, West Florida came out to the closest competition of the weekend and took a win at number one doubles with nationally ranked doubles team at No. 22 Berta Bonardi and Diana Vlad defeating Rebecca Grace Kimball and Alisa Morozova 6-4. Calves and Silwanowicz lost at two 7-5 and Mantilla and Rink lost at three 6-4.
Down 1-0, the Argos fought to come back and win the match. Mantilla was first to finish, but lost 6-4, 6-3 at the number six spot. Down 2-0, the Argos responded with four straight wins.
No. 1 Bonardi finished next with the first win of the match 6-0, 6-1. Araujo followed the win with her win 6-3, 6-3 and Vlad also did her part at number four winning 6-4, 6-3.
The clinching win came from Heather Mixon as she battled in a three set match against Aneta Golawska and Mixon coming out on top 2-6, 6-1, 6-2. The Argonauts are now 17-7 on the season and still 10-1 in the GSC.
The No. 14 UWF Women's team will host a couple more home matches before the regular season comes to an end. Up next for the Argos is a home match against Keiser, Thursday, April 18th at 1:00 pm CT.
The following Saturday, April 20th, the Argos will be facing Xavier (LA.) for their Senior Day at 1:00 pm CT.
