Argonauts Fly to the Colorado Premier Challenge in Denver Tomorrow

UWF is set to face two nationally ranked teams

PENSACOLA, Fla. –  Tomorrow the West Florida volleyball team will take to the skies and head to Denver, Colorado for their 11th Colorado Premier Challenge on September 13-14. 

This year the Argos will face off first against No. 10 Concordia-St. Paul and No. 11 Ferris State.

Against Concordia, the Argos have tallied a 1-3 record, including a 1-2 record in the Colorado Premier Challenge. The last meeting came in 2017 with Concordia collecting a four-set victory over the Argonauts.

Against Ferris, the Argos have only faced them once before at the Colorado Premier Challenge in 2015 where the Bulldogs came out on top 3-0.

ABOUT UWF: UWF heads out to Colorado after last weekend opening season tournament at home in the 2019 West Florida Invitational. The Argos went 2-2 on the weekend winning two against Florida Tech and Spring Hill and dropping two to No. 3 Western Washington and No. 13 Wheeling. Ashton Marshall and Jordyn Poppen both earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team for outstanding performances in their roles. 

ABOUT CONCORDIA-ST. PAUL: This past weekend, Concordia opened up their season in the Terrace Hotel Classic hosted by Florida Southern where the Golden Bears came out 2-2 losing to No. 1 Tampa and Hillsdale (Mich.). Concordia enters the weekend as six-time championships of the Colorado Premier Challenge. CSP took home the crown last season while they also took the top spot in 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2016. 

ABOUT FERRIS STATE: The Bulldogs come into the weekend with a 4-0 record after having an undefeated weekend in a home opener tournament. FSU took wins over Ohio Dominican, McKendree, Gannon (Pa.) and Seton Hill (Pa.). Last year Ferris finished 27-5 overall and their journey came to an end at the NCAA DII Midwest Region Semifinals against Rockhurst (Mo.) in a five set battle.
