PENSACOLA, Fla. –  The Argos end the day with two wins and zero sets lost as they faced Spring Hill and Florida Tech in day two of the 2019 West Florida Invitational.Â
West Florida took on Spring Hill in the first match and the competition was tight. The Argos took the win though in close 25-20, 25-22, 25-22 decisions. As a team UWF hit a .281 racking up 52 kills on 128 attempts and 16 errors.Â
Sophomore Kierra Potts had an outstanding match with 12 kills, 12 digs, and lead the team in blocks with four, two solo and two assisted. Redshirt Freshman Veresia Yon also had a great match hitting .500 with 9 kills on 14 attempts with only two errors.
This was the Argos first win of the season and put their record to 1-1 overall.
At 4:30 pm, UWF took on Florida Tech for their second match. The Argos kept this match to another 3-0 win in another tight match with 25-21, 25-20, 25-17 being the final scores.
Jordyn Poppen lead the team in kills with 11 on 23 attempts and only one error hitting a .435. Poppen was also tied for second on the team in digs with 14 along with Potts and both lead by Ashton Marshall with 18 digs.Â
Freshman Jessica Angelo had her college debut in the third set where she recorded two kills on five attempts hitting .400 for the set. The support of her team and the fans for this moment and for the day was special.Â
Tomorrow the Argos have one final match at 3:00 pm against Wheeling Jesuit. Wheeling is ranked No. 13 in the AVCA Preseason poll and the Argos are ranked No. 24. This matchup will be followed up by the final match of the 2019 West Florida Invitational where Spring Hill will face Florida Tech at 5:30 pm.
