PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF men's basketball team wraps up the week undefeated with their win tonight over Mississippi College and on Thursday over Delta State. With their 66-44 win over the Choctaws tonight the Argos move to 7-8 overall and 4-4 in the GSC.
The Argos dominated the first half going into halftime 34-18 and then was able to extend their 16 point lead in the second half as Head Coach Jeff Burkhamer was able to give some other players the opportunity to play in the game.
UWF (7-8, 4-4 Gulf South) shot 40.9 percent on the game compared to MC's 29.6 percent. The Argos dominated the game defensively giving themselves multiple chances to score with their 50 rebounds and 25 points from second chances.
Point leader for the Argos was Tarik McKelphin who had 22 points and has had a great week of basketball overall. McKelphin earned his first double-double of the season with his 10 rebounds as well. Lawrence Williams was not far behind him as he earned his first double-double of the season as well as he racked up 10 points and 10 rebounds. Cameron Cox tallied nine assists, four points and one rebound creating a great all around game for him tonight.
MC (6-8,2-6 Gulf South) never was able to obtain the lead over the Argos and had to fight the whole game to stay in it. The Choctaws shot 29.6 percent on the game and had two almost identical halves to the game where in the first half they shot 29.6 percent going 8-27 and did the exact same thing in the second half. Wincenton Edwards was the Choctaws point leader with 19 points on the game. Winford Ross also had a good game for MC as he racked up 13 rebounds and went six for 10 from the free throw line.
Up next for the Argonauts will be a roadtrip to Georgia next week as they take on Shorter on Thursday, Jan 16th at 8:00 p.m., ET and then on Saturday, Jan. 18th they will take on the West Georgia Wolves. Tip-off for Saturday is set for 4:00 p.m., ET. The Argos will be back at home the following week.
