West Georgia Too Much For UWF On Saturday

The Argonauts will host AUM and West Alabama next week.

CARROLLTON, Ga. – West Georgia scored seven-consecutive points over a two minute stretch midway through the fourth quarter and outlasted UWF for a 76-62 win over the Argonauts at the UWG Coliseum Saturday.

UWF (5-13, 1-9 Gulf South) just didn't have enough depth to keep up with the frenetic style of play that West Georgia has implemented this season. Eight of the 10 players that dressed for the Wolves played at least 10 minutes in their driving, attacking offense.

Charlotte Ellmore led UWF with 17 points for her fourth-consecutive game in double figures. Danielle Norquest had 11 points and 16 rebounds for her 14th double-double, while Faithe Franklin finished with seven points, 11 boards and six assists.

"I was impressed with how we played," UWF head coach Stephanie Lawrence Yelton said. "We outrebounded them and shot the ball pretty well. We had some good productivity from kids that hadn't done much for us lately. But after Thursday's loss, we just didn't have the legs to keep up with West Georgia today."

One of those players was Beth Rorhbach who was pressed into service in the first half after some foul trouble hit a pair of UWF's interior players. Rohrbach had a career-high four points and made some good post moves on a number of touches in seven minutes.

The Argonauts shot 38 percent as a team and outrebounded the Wolves 47-39.

UWF stayed within four at the half with a 35-31 deficit. A 9-2 run midway through the third quarter gave UWF a 43-42 lead before dropping into a 52-49 hole going into the fourth. Four points from Ashaunti Brown pulled UWF within 59-57 with 5:50 remaining before the Wolves got a free throw and a pair of 3-pointers to pull away.

UWG (12-4, 5-3) made 12 3-pointers against UWF's zone, which were its most against an NCAA team this season. The Wolves were also 16-of-18 from the foul line.

Kylah Mize came off the bench to score a career-high 23 with five 3-pointers and 9-of-12 shooting overall.

UWF will return home to play host to Auburn Montgomery (9-8, 2-7) on Thursday night. The game will be 90s Night and will start at 5:30 p.m.
