PENSACOLA, Fla. –
Tarik McKelphin scored a season-high 23 points to lead UWF but the Argos fell to Auburn Montgomery, 73-66, at the UWF Field House Thursday.
The Argonauts closed to within two points early in the second half before AUM outscored UWF 16-4 to grab a 55-41 lead with 10 minutes to play. UWF was unable to get closer than five the rest of the game.
Jon Brown added 18 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
UWF (9-9, 6-5 Gulf South) shot 40 percent compared to 47 percent for AUM (9-10, 4-6). The Warhawks outrebounded the Argos 37-34 and outscored them 36-28 in the paint. The loss snapped UWF's season-best four-game winning streak.
Carlos Bell lead all scorers with 32 points on 11-of-15 shooting. Maharrith Jackson added 17.
The teams were knotted at 27 with four minutes to play in the opening half before the Warhawks closed the frame on a 7-2 run with five coming from Bell. AUM had 22 of its 34 first half scoring in the lane.
UWF will remain at home on Saturday night when it plays host to West Alabama (14-4, 7-3). Tipoff at the UWF Field House is at 6 p.m.
