* Coming off Wednesday's 94-67 home win over Shorter to start the 2020-21 season, the UWF women's basketball team will make its first road trip of the year, taking on 21st-ranked Lee at Paul Dana Walker Arena in Cleveland, Tenn.
Recapping Wednesday's Season-Opening Win Over Shorter
* Senior Gabby Brown scored 13 points in her UWF debut to lead four players in double figures as the Argonauts defeated Shorter, 94-67, in the season opener at the UWF Field House Wednesday. Fanny Hulmi and Charlotte Ellmore had 13 apiece, while Danielle Norquest came off the bench to finish with 10 points, seven boards and four assists. Ellmore handed out a game-high seven assists as UWF assisted on 24 of its 34 made baskets.
* UWF (1-0) shot 48 percent overall and made nine 3-pointers in winning its season opener for the fifth-consecutive year. The shooting percentage was the highest for an Argo squad since late in the 2018-19 season against Eckerd in the NCAA Tournament. The Argos dominated on the boards, outrebounding the Hawks 57-30, which aided in 32 second-chance points off 23 offensive rebounds.
*Â UWF was solid inside all game, scoring 34 points in the paint.
*Â UWF had 12 different players score and all 14 on the bench saw playing time, leading to 42 points off the bench.
* UWF scored a school-record 59 points in the second half (28 in the 3rd and 31 in the 4th). The last time the Argos scored at least 50 in a half was two years ago against Spring Hill, when they put up 56 in the first 20 minutes. The previous record was set three years ago when UWF scored 58 after halftime against Montevallo in a game where Halee Nieman had a school-record 42 points.

UWF Hoops History 101
* The Argonauts are 580-508 all-time and 233-178 in GSC play … UWF has won three East Division and one overall regular-season titles, along with the 2013-14 GSC Tournament crown … The Argos have played in six NCAA Regional Tournaments – including four in the last seven years – and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight in 2017 with a school-record 28 victories … Prior to last year's 8-win campaign, UWF had averaged 21 wins in the previous six seasons.
Scoting Lee
* Lee is opening the season on Monday and coming off a 26-4 mark a year ago. The Lady Flames won a share of the GSC regular-season title with a 17-3 record.
* Haley Schubert is the top returner among a roster that lost six players from 2019-20. Schubert, a preseason All-GSC pick, averaged 12.3 points, 2.6 assists and 2.0 steals per game as a sophomore.
*Veteran coach Marty Rowe is in his 17th season at Lee and has a 423-106 record. He is 554-171 all-time as a head coach which includes six season at Brescia University in Owensboro, Ky.

* Lee holds an 9-4 series edge against UWF all-time. The Lady Flames lead the series in Cleveland, 5-1. The Argos won the last meeting at Paul Dana Walker Arena, 76-70, two years ago.
Yelton Nearing 200 Head Coaching Wins
* Stephanie Lawrence Yelton is in her ninth season at UWF and has a 141-96 record at UWF … She is 198-180 in her 14th season as a head coach, which includes five seasons at Charleston Southern … The Morrow, Ga. native (suburb south of Atlanta) is a UNC grad from 1996 and was a 4-year letterwinner for the Tar Heels, where she won two ACC Championships and the 1994 NCAA National Championship – she threw the inbounds pass on Charlotte Smith's game-winning buzzer beater in the title game.
* Yelton was named the GSC Coach of the Year in 2013-14 and 2018-19.
GSC Split Into Divisions For First Time Since 2010-11
* With an abbreviated season due to the uncertainty of health and wellness brought on by the Coronavirus pandemic, the Gulf South Conference worked through a number of scheduling scenarios and ultimately settled on a 20-game slate using an East-West model … UWF is in the East with AUM, Lee, Montevallo, Shorter, Valdosta State and West Georgia … The Argos will face AUM and Montevallo four times, and the other four schools three times … The top four teams from each division will qualify for the GSC Championship.
UWF Picked 6th In GSC Coaches Poll
* UWF was picked to finish sixth in the GSC Preseason Coaches Poll … Defending champion Lee earned four of six first place votes and was picked first in the East, followed by Montevallo who received the other two first place votes. West Georgia, Valdosta State and Auburn Montgomery were ahead of the Argos, with Shorter picked seventh.
Norquest Named Preseason All-GSC
* Senior F Danielle Norquest was named to the Preseason All-GSC East Division Team last week … The standout from Diamond, Ohio, is coming off a season in which she averaged 14.5 points and 12.9 rebounds per game … She is the third leading returning scorer in the GSC East Division … Last season she led the league and ranked sixth nationally with a school-record-tying 21 double-doubles … Norquest enters the Lee game with 656 points and 532 rebounds in three-plus seasons at UWF.
What's Back for the Argos
* UWF returns six letterwinners from a year ago, including five players who started at least 15 games … Senior F Danielle Norquest and junior G Charlotte Ellmore each started all 28 games and combined for 24.2 points, 16.1 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game … Junior C Aline Fevrier continued to improve in the post with 5.1 ppg and 4.0 rpg … Additionally, redshirt sophomore PG D'Asia Collins returns after missing the entire season with a knee injury.
UWF Newcomers
* UWF has seven newcomers, along with a redshirt freshman who missed the final 21 games from a year ago … The Argos brought in Division I transfers Gabby Brown and Peyton Lewis, to go with true freshmen Alex Haymon, Makayla Michael, Alli Morgan, Amara Newsom and Megan Sanfratello … Mary Denman Luker received a medical redshirt after a knee injury ended her season after nine games.
COVID-19 Protocols In Place
* In an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19, UWF will limit attendance for all December 2020 home men's and women's basketball games to immediate family members of UWF student-athletes and coaches. Visiting teams will be permitted a pre-approved guest pass list.
* Face coverings and at least six feet of social distancing will be required inside the arena by spectators and staff. Fans will not be allowed on the court at any time, including pre-and post-game.
