LIVINGSTON, Ala.- The seventh ranked UWF Women's tennis team turned in an outstanding performance, cruising past #25 West Alabama by a final of 7-0, Friday afternoon at the Vaughn Tennis Complex in Livingston.
A victory for the Argos moves them to 2-1 and 1-0 in the Gulf South Conference while the Tigers drop to 0-2 and 0-1 in the GSC.
The Argonauts thoroughly dominated from the outset as they captured each doubles match. The ninth ranked pairing of
Karolina Silwanowicz and Gabriela
Araujo won 6-2, while the duos of Berta
Bonardi and Lucie
Lesecq as well as Irene
Recuenco and
Lais Bicca were both victorious 6-4.
Silwanowicz, a junior from Poland ranked
23rd nationally, started out the singles portion with a 6-1, 6-4 victory. Following
Silwanowicz were
Bonardi and
Recuenco, ranked first and sixth nationally, with wins of their own.
Closing out for the Argos were
Araujo,
Lesecq and Samantha
Echevarria who each claimed victories in the tiebreaker portions of their matches.
The Argonauts will continue their trip in Alabama with a match tomorrow morning against
Montevallo. The first match between the Argos and Falcons will begin at 9am.
