MONTEVALLO, Ala-. The seventh ranked UWF women's tennis team continued their dominance in the Yellowhammer state with a 7-0 win over Montevallo on Saturday morning in Montevallo, Alabama.
With the victory, the Argonauts improved to 3-1 and 2-0 in the Gulf South Conference while the Falcons dropped to 2-2 and 0-1 in the conference.
Similar to Friday's match, West Florida was strong in the doubles portion of the match, winning two out of the three matches which included
Gabriela Araujo and
Karolina Silwanowicz, the ninth ranked duo in the south region, going 6-2.Â
Irene Recuenco and
Lais Bicca were also victorious with a 6-2 finish of their own to get points early for the Argos.
It was a bit of a different story in the singles matches as UWF was able to sweep the singles portion, winning all six matches.
#1 nationally ranked player,
Berta Bonardi, was a notable for the blue and white as she continued her early season dominance with a 6-4, 6-3 win in the number one singles match-up. Recuenco and Silwanowicz, two other nationally ranked Argonauts, also won in straight sets, while Araujo, Lesecq and graduate transfer,
Samantha Echevarria, triumphed in their matches.
The women will look to go three-for-three in Alabama with a match vs. Alabama Huntsville tomorrow morning. The match between the Argos and Chargers is set for 10 am.
