UWF Baseball Splits Doubleheader, Winning Series at Montevallo

The Argos will be Back in Action Next Friday at West Alabama

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – No. 19 UWF baseball won its second straight three-game series Saturday at Kermit A. Johnson Field. The Argos dropped the first game of a doubleheader vs. Montevallo 2-1 before rebounding with a series-clinching 4-1 win to close the day.
 
Game 1: Falcons 2, Argos 1
 
West Florida outhit the Falcons 6-3 in the first game of the day. UWF led most of the game 1-0, after Bryant Harris Jr. blasted a solo homer to left field. This was Harris' first homer of the season.

Montevallo scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to win the first game late. Davis Lott hit a crushing two out single through the right side that scored two for the Falcons that ended up being the difference in game one.

Daniel Floyd pitched seven shutout innings, while striking out eight and one walk. Floyd finished with a no decision and Alex Knight got the loss, after allowing two earned runs in his 0.2 inning of relief. Justin Dunnam had a multi-hit game, finishing with two singles.

Falcons' reliever JD Kytle (2-0) picked up the win with a shutout eighth inning of relief work. Chandler Ingram notched his second save of the year for Montevallo.

Game 2: Argos 4, Falcons 1
 
UWF recovered well in the series finale, scoring three runs early to emerge victorious. UWF scored four runs on five hits to defeat Falcons' starter Zach Toth (1-1) by a final score of 4-1.
 
The Argos scored in three different innings in the second game of the doubleheader with Raynel Ortiz getting the scoring started in the second with an RBI sacrifice bunt that scored Harris Jr. from third. Jack Copley gave UWF some breathing room with a 2 RBI single up the middle, scoring Cullan O'Shea and Miller Hancock giving the Argos a 3-0 lead. Harris Jr. extended the Argonauts lead to 4-1 in the fifth inning off a sacrifice fly to center scoring O'Shea.
 
Hunter Lucas earned his first win of the season to move to 1-1 on the season. He allowed only one earned run that occurred in the third and struck out three en route to the win. Anthony Martens was awarded the save after pitching a scoreless 0.2 inning in the seventh to close out the finale.
 
The Argos (4-5, 2-1 GSC) will look to stay hot as they head to Livingston, Alabama next weekend to take on West Alabama (5-5, 0-3). The series will begin on Friday at 6:00 p.m. CT., and will conclude on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. CT.
