Strong Second Half Powers UWF Past Montevallo, 69-64

Brown and Flanagan combined for 40 points and seven 3-pointers

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Jon Brown scored 15 points in the second half to help lead UWF to a 69-64 come-from-behind win over Montevallo at the UWF Field House on Saturday.

The Argonauts found themselves trailing the Falcons by 12 early in the second half and by 10 with 13 minutes to play.

That's when Brown took over and scored 13 during a 22-5 run that saw UWF take a 64-57 lead with 4:30 remaining. The Falcons got within two in the final minutes and had two layups roll off the rim as the Argos made three free throws to ice the game.

Brown finished with 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-4 from downtown.

Conor Flanagan had 19 points and 10 rebounds for his second-consecutive double-double. He also made three 3-pointers for the second-straight contest.

Brett Carter, Jr. was clutch in the second half as he ran the point when Cameron Cox had to sit with foul trouble. Carter came off the bench to score 10 points in a career-high 34 minutes. His three 3-pointers marked his fifth-straight game with at least three outside makes.

The Argos shot 45 percent – 54 percent in the second half – and were 11-of-22 from outside.

UM (12-15, 7-9) was led by Ivan Smith's 18 points.

The win allowed UWF to improve to 14-12 overall and 11-8 in the Gulf South Conference. The Argos, who started the year at 1-5, have clinched a .500 or better record for the third time in four seasons for the first time since 2006.

UWF remained in sixth place in the GSC standings entering the final week of play. The Argos can finish anywhere from fifth to seventh in the regular-season standings.

UWF will play host to No. 12 Valdosta State (22-3, 16-2) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
