PENSACOLA, Fla.- For the first time in 2020, the UWF women and men's tennis team will play at home at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex on Sunday morning against Lee University at 10 am.
The seventh ranked women Argos stand at 4-1 (3-0 GSC), having a week off before Sunday's match.
For the ladies, they have not played since last Sunday when they dispatched Alabama Huntsville by a final of 7-0. That was after defeating both West Alabama and Montevallo each by scores of 7-0 previously to start 3-0 in GSC play. UWF started the season by splitting back-to-back matches with Georgia Gwinnett and Florida Southern, losing to the number one ranked NAIA power, Georgia Gwinnett, then besting the Mocs the next afternoon, 4-1.
So far this season, the Argos have been led by number one ranked and Fall ITA singles champion,
Berta Bonardi. Bonardi, a native of Argentina, has gone 4-1, winning her previous four matches with three of those coming in straight sets. She has been boosted by fellow returners,
Karolina Silwanowicz and
Gabriela Araujo, who make up the ninth ranked doubles pairing in the south region. Araujo and Silwanowicz are four and one this season in doubles matches while Silwanowicz was recently named as the GSC Player of the Week because of her 3-0 record in singles play last weekend, all in straight sets.
About Lee: The women stand at 3-1, with their lone loss coming against 17th ranked Tusculum University.  The women are led by Lisa Kirr as they take a by-committee approach with no player ranked inside the top 50. Kirr is 3-1 on the season while the duo of Lauren Trammell and Sierra Donaldson are dangerous in doubles, having won all four matches.
