PENSACOLA, Fla.- In their first home match of 2020, the UWF women's tennis team easily extinguished Lee by a final of 7-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.
The win moves the Argonauts to 5-1 and 4-0 in Gulf South Conference play while Lee falls to 3-2 and 0-1 in the GSC this season.
The seventh ranked women breezed through their doubles portion, winning two out of three as
Karolina Silwanowicz and
Gabriela Araujo along with
Irene Recuenco and
Manon Meulenberg winning their matches 6-3, 6-1 respectively. UWF swept the doubles as Lee only had five players forcing the Argos to win the third doubles match by walkover.
Nationally ranked players Recuenco and Silwanowicz took victories in singles' action as they won 2-6, 7-5, 5-0 and 6-4, 6-0, respectively. Araujo and
Lais Bicca won their match-ups 6-2, 6-0 and 6-3, 6-0 plus
Samantha Echevarria joined in on the party as she took home a victory 2-6, 6-2, 7-0. UWF also earned a win by virtue of a walkover in the #6 spot.
Next Up: The girls will have a couple weeks off before returning to action at home against sixth ranked Saint Leo. The match between the Argonauts and Lions is scheduled for March 7th at 10 am at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.
