PENSACOLA, Fla.- On a day where the seventh ranked UWF Women's Tennis needed it most, they found a little extra in the tank to claw past Saint Leo by a final of 4-3 at Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The wins move the Argonaut ladies to 6-1 while the sixth ranked Lions drop to 6-2.
For the women, it looked like they would be in cruise control all morning long as UWF took all three doubles matches by margins of 6-3, 6-3, and 6-2 which put them up 1-0 going into the singles duel. However, Saint Leo would come back to make things interesting. Team veterans Berta
Bonardi and Gabriela
Araujo did step up for UWF as they came out on top in their matches 6-2, 6-1 and 6-4, 4-6, 7-6, respectively.
It all came down to newcomer Lucie
Lesecq as she proved to be the hero with the teams knotted at 3 points apiece. The junior from France battled back from an 0-4 deficit in her match to clinch the win for West Florida by a final of 3-6, 7-6, 7-6.
UWF will have little time to enjoy the win as the ladies will be back in action tomorrow afternoon against the University of Texas at Tyler. The match between the Argos and Patriots will begin at 2pm from the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.
