PENSACOLA, Fla.- The 2020 edition of UWF Tennis begins in Valdosta, Georgia on Sunday, February 9th as both the men's and women's tennis teams will play perennial NAIA power Georgia Gwinnet with the matches beginning at 2 pm ET/ 1pm CT. West Florida will then travel to Lakeland, Florida for a match-up with Florida Southern the next day at 2pm ET.
Both the men's and women's programs were very successful last season as both achieved 20 win seasons in 2019 with trips to the NCAA Tournament.
The Argonaut women, ranked #7 in the pre-season, went 20-9 which included a GSC Championship after a 4-0 victory over West Alabama and a berth to the DII South Regional where they eventually fell to Lynn University.
Berta Bonardi returns to lead the ladies as she is currently ranked as the #1 singles player in the nation in the latest ITA pre-season rankings. Joining her are returners,
Gabriela Araujo and
Karolina Silwanowicz while the Argos also welcome in newcomers,
Manon Meulenberg and
Irene Recuenco.
The men, ranked #3 by the ITA in their initial DII rankings for the 2020 season, will look to seniors Serdar Bojadiev, Juan Cabrera and Juan Motta to return to the post-season after last season's National Quarterfinal appearance after going 23-7 during the season.
