PENSACOLA, Fla. – Brett Carter, Jr. made five 3-pointers and was joined by
Jon Brown in the 20-point club as UWF cruised to a 86-66 win over Shorter at the UWF Field House on Saturday.
Carter made his first four shots, including long range jumpers on three-consecutive possessions that helped UWF turn a 9-point lead into a 37-19 cushion late in the first half. He finished with a career- and game-high 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting.
"I thought it was a really good team win," UWF head coach
Jeff Burkhamer said. "I thought we guarded well in the first half and then late in the game.
"We did a better job of getting into gaps and getting the ball to open shooters. To shoot 52 percent is outstanding."
Brown had 20 points, nine rebounds, five steals and four assists.
Cameron Cox capped an outstanding week with 13 points, 11 boards and seven assists.
UWF (12-11, 9-7 Gulf South) shot 52 percent overall for its second-highest mark of the season.
The Hawks got within four points three times in the second half, before the Argos used a 15-0 run to pull away.
Shorter (3-20, 0-13) had three players in double figures, led by Ja'Cori Wilson's 19 points and six rebounds.
UWF will face Delta State (8-15, 4-11) on Thursday in Cleveland, Miss. Tip-off at Walter Sillers Coliseum is set for 7:30 p.m.
