Women's Tennis returns home to face Saint Leo and Texas Tyler

Looking to regain form after two week break

PENSACOLA, Fla.- Following early season success, the UWF women's tennis team returns home to face Saint Leo and Texas Tyler on March 7th and March 8th at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex at the University of West Florida.

The seventh-ranked Argo women's tennis team will look to regain form after not playing in nearly two weeks since their last match against Lee University on February 23rd.

So far this season, the third-ranked Argos are 5-1 overall and 4-0 in the Gulf South Conference.  Winners of six straight, the ladies have not lost since their opening match against NAIA powerhouse, Georgia Gwinnett.  They have been especially dominant in GSC play as they have won each match 7-0 with number one ranked player, Berta Bonardi, standing out.  Karolina Silwanowicz, Gabriela Araujo and Irene Recuenco have also led the way.

About the Opponents: Saint Leo, ranked sixth in the country, comes into the match at 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the Sunshine State Conference.  Despite the uneven record, the Lions have faced a very tough schedule as they have already played three top 13 teams in Flagler, Barry and the University of Indianapolis.  They feature two top 31 players in Marta Vicens Miguel and Kristina Jurkova as well as two more players featured in the ITA south region singles top 20 in Nina Furmaniak and Molly Helgesson.  Helgesson/Furmaniak and Jurkova/Miguel are also the fourth and seventh ranked doubles pairings in the south region.

Texas Tyler is currently stands at 3-5 overall, having played GSC foe West Alabama, a team UWF beat 7-0 earlier in the season.  Look out for upperclassmen, Caitlyn Cox and Anna Claire Gerletti on the Patriots.  Cox was the 2017 ASC freshman of the year.

The match with Saint Leo on Saturday, March 7th will begin at 10 am while the match with Patriots will begin on Sunday, March 8th at 2pm.
