COMPLETE 2019 HAMPSHIRE HONOR SOCIETY LISTING
IRVING, Texas – The UWF football program had four student-athletes named to the prestigious Hampshire Honor Society as announced by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF).
Ty Cox,
Tate Lehtio, Josh Smiley and
Joe Wintrick were all recognized for their career contributions to the sport of football and their academic success as undergraduate student-athletes.
Cox appeared in 41 games during his career as he finished with 46 tackles. The Oviedo, Fla. native is a 3-time member of the Gulf South Conference Academic Honor Roll and has a 3.45 grade point average while majoring in Biomedical Sciences.
Lehtio currently has a 3.9 GPA in the Master's of Business Administration program following a 3.8 undergrad GPA while earning his bachelor's degree in Business. The Parkland, Fla. native ended his career as the school's all-time leader with 215 receptions and 2,463 receiving yards, while ranking second in touchdowns and points scored with 14 and 90, respectively.
Smiley concluded a 4-year career in Pensacola with 177 tackles to rank fourth in program history. A native of Montgomery, Ala., he is a 4-time member of the GSC Academic Honor Roll and has a 3.2 GPA in Mechanical Engineering. He and Lehtio were both voted onto the CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams by the College Sports Information Directors of America at various times during their careers.
Wintrick will conclude his 3-year career at UWF with a 3.24 in Fitness and Sport Coaching. The Tampa, Fla. native transferred to UWF prior to the 2017 season and spent his three seasons as a starter on the left side of the offensive line, including 34 at guard and three at tackle.
The Society is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college careers. An impressive 1,465 players from 369 schools qualified for membership in the Society's 14th year.
Nominated by their respective schools, members of the NFF Hampshire Honor Society must have:
* Completed their final year of playing eligibility in 2019;
* Achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average throughout entire course of undergraduate study; and
* Met all NCAA- or NAIA-mandated progress toward degree requirements.
* Been starters or significant contributors throughout the 2019 season.
The Hampshire Honor Society represents an important component in the organization's rich history as an innovator in promoting the scholar-athlete ideal, which began in 1959 with the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Awards.
